All we've done so far is pick our photographer and booked our venue. I don't plan on looking for a dress till late this year, and purchasing it early next year. We will be engaged for over 2 years by the time the wedding rolls around, and I'm getting really anxious! I just want it to happen NOW!
Save the dates will probably go out sometime in mid-Spring. End of April sounds good, that gives guests 6 months to plan and save. And invites late July/early August.
Other than that, I haven't really thought about everything else. I'm planning on doing a lot of DIYs so it will get busy at the beginning of the new year I imagine!
just for kicks i'm checking out a florist on friday. wish me luck. i've already got my dress/veil/headpiece, we've book our venue and picked our wedding party.
I bought my dress but it's not in yet. We also have a venue and a photographer, and our having our e-pics done next Tuesday! I've started making some ribbon wreaths to hang on the doors of our venue. And we're meeting with a caterer on July 1st, just so I can get an idea of how much that's going to cost us and how stressed I need to be. I'm hoping to do a little bit every month so as not to be sooooooo stressed at the end!
We're planning the wedding from out of state, so we'll be picking the venue, photographer, lighting and linen specialists in September. Dress is already bought (Yeah!) and we've started looking at wedding bands.
We are working against the VT football schedule with our planning, so we're hoping to nail down a venue by this October so that we can send out the STDs and Invites in Nov/December of THIS year. This way guests can book rooms before a VT home game is announced (in Jan or Feb) for that weekend and room availability goes out the window.
My date is 10/28/11 (I know my profile is wrong!) and honestly, I have been very surprised at how early you have to book vendors here in Pittsburgh. The market must be booming!
I started contacting DJ's and makeup artists, etc and they were almost all booked for October 11 already! I barely scraped by in getting my venue and even then, I had to settle for a Friday night.
Our date is October 15/2011,
So far we have booked our ceremony and reception venues, and chosen our wedding party. We have some very vague idea of what we want (dessert and cocktail reception, fall themed decoration)... and we're doing EVERYTHING DIY, so really we should probably be getting on some stuff to avoid being head cases this time next year
@WonderTwin: We were planning around the UT football schedule! Are you sure the dates aren't out yet? I was able to pull up the schedule for UT for the next couple years so maybe VT is already out too?!?
We have our venue, wedding planner, wedding party, photographer, and videographer...next up DJ!
@lindsd16: Hello, date twin! The schedules for VT's 2011-2014 seasons are online, however, only the first 3 games have dates for 2011 and 2012. It's ok, though. I'm hoping for either an away game, a game on Thursday, or a game that is against a local team as those options will keep hotel rooms available for our OOT guests (who comprise 95% of our guest list). We'll know the official schedule in Jan/Feb, March the latest.
You're way ahead of me with planning, too! We're still working on choosing a venue. We do have the wedding party decided and booked our officiant.
Oh dear. I had better get started. I have a dress and a tiara, but nothing else yet, not even a venue! We're flexible on the date but we missed out on our front-runner venue--it's already booked up for October. We're going to look at another one on Friday, so hopefully we'll get this nailed down sooner rather than later.
I got engaged in March but got so busy with graduating law school and taking the bar exam that we decided to postpone planning until after the bar. I thought I would still have plenty of time! Well, here we are just beginning to plan and I already feel like I'm behind and have to catch up! I have plenty of ideas (been doing lots of brainstorming and online research) but absolutely nothing booked. sigh.
yay fellow october 2011 brides!
so far we have the church, reception venue, photographer, & videographer booked. I've met with 2 caterers and 2 florists and hope to nail those down by the end of the month.
The next big task is to figure out the band or dj. I have some in mind but need to contact and price them. I haven't started dress shopping... hope to begin looking in october.
Moving along i guess, slow but steady ! :D
YAY, we need to get some action into this board! :)
So far, all we've really done is booked the venue (ceremony and reception at same place). I've started dress shopping, and I've found THE ONE - I just haven't purchased yet. I'm trying to find it used, we're on a really tight budget.
Also, we've got our guest list pretty much set, wedding party set, and started on some DIY projects (table numbers).
I have the STD's picked out, I'm just going to wait awhile before purchasing/sending.
But that's it! Right now we're working on dress and photographer!
Well, we finally found our venue! It was already all booked for October of 2011 (and September) on Saturdays so we have to settle on a Friday night wedding. I don't mind that though. So, we have that figured out. We decided on black/ivory colors w/ some fuschia accents. I know the dress I want, but I didn't try it on or anything yet. (Maggie Sotterro dress - the Dallas Marie) Other than that, I didn't do anything else.
Well......this is where I am so far:
I have the venue, photographer, and videographer booked.
I pretty much didn't plan on doing anything else for the rest of the year except find a dress and inform the wedding party.
Everything else, I was going to wait until January to start doing more. I didn't plan on trying to book a caterer or DJ until Feb or Mar and the DJ, maybe in April.
Now I'm wondering if I should get on the ball.....
Ahh so exciting! Its just over a year away!! Our date is October 15 2011:)
So far we have our venue, our DJ, we checked out a florist we really like, choose the wedding party, and we have an appointment with a videographer and a photographer in two weeks. I have already been looking at STD's since I would like to send them out probably by December since we know our date and location..I have been looking for invitations too!
Our next goals are to nail down the photographer and videographer, find an officant and plan the honeymoon! I am going to start looking for my dress and my girls dresses next month! YAY!
We tried to do alot of stuff before we moved out of DC (we are in PA now), so I feel ahead of the game.
We've got our date, the church, the reception venue, the caterer, interviewed a bunch of DOC's and the cake person. I'm 80% sure I have my dress, and our wedding party is done. And our guest list is pretty much set since we couldn't go venue shopping until we had our number All in a month-because I'm a glutton for punishment. :)
My next goal is the find the photographer since they book up pretty fast in the DC metro. We're doing our engagment pics in Novemeber and are going to try and send them out in February (so they don't get mixed up with holiday mail)
YAY October brides! My mom keeps telling me it's over a year out and not to worry, but it'll be here sooner than I think.
Alright here's where we are:
* Church and Venue Booked
* Photographer Booked
* Florist Booked
* Wedding Party Confirmed
We still need a DJ, my dress and a million other things. Right now I have a vendor from etsy working on some STD designs for us. I too thought I had plenty of time, and now it is really sneaking up on us!
We now have our venue, photog, church booked and wedding party. Oh, and we blocked off the hotel... Working on transportation for guests and the rehearsal dinner... Thinking about looking for a dress this fall (for myself and my maids...)... When are you ladies thinking about sending out Save the Dates? Our wedding is semi-destination, so I am curious what your thoughts are!
@littlecat: We are looking at getting our STDs and invites out this winter (Nov-Jan). We're up against hotel availabilty which is dependent on the 2011-2012 VT Hokie football schedule. We're sending everything out early in hopes that our guests book their hotel rooms before the schedule is announced, so if there is a home game they won't be battling for space. Even if we block rooms, some hotels would force us to pay for them to secure them or free them up for Hokie fans.
I was surprised to find how many people had already booked reception locations over a year out. When my fiance and I started looking in August this year, many places were already booked up! Insane. We just now were able to set a date with the church and are going in to sign our contract for the reception venue. Now I suppose my next big task is to find a photographer!
Hello beautiful October brides! I totally agree on how surprising it is that vendors book up so quickly - I thought we were ahead of the game, planning a year+ out, but as vendors keep telling me - "Saturdays in October book very quickly." Eesh.
We'll probably send out STDs in late March/early April. Does that sound about right?
@Totes Magotes:That's about when I plan to send mine...April-ish. Invites will be the standard 8 week advance.
@Rocketdog - glad to hear we're on the same page ;) We are taking engagement pics in two weeks, and I'm hoping to use those for save-the-dates. I just have no idea what we want for the STD yet!
I'm doing STDs with the Christmas cards (saving on postage), invitations in May for an August 1st RSVP date. I know it's SUPER early, but I don't care because I'm marrying into a greek family and I rather have two months to chase people than two weeks. Remember you can't do your seating chart or name tags until you have the RSVPs in. The sooner you have that done, the sooner thsoe tasks can be done :-)
Oh, and I have church, venue hall, florist, DJ, photographer (e-pics done), dress and decorations all done. Doing BM dresses in November.
So far we have the ceremony site, reception site, photographer, caterer, officiant, and DJ. Everyone thinks I'm nuts doing it now, but time slots are filling up fast! I have not got my dress yet. i am waiting until either the end of November, when fall dresses start going on clearance, or March, when I *should* be 30 pounds lighter! lol
So far:
We have booked the venue and caterer. I'm looking at dresses at the end of this month. Next on the list is photographer and band. Everyone thinks we're crazy for doing so much so early, but Monterey is so competitive for weddings...
I'm hoing to get our engagment photos and Save the Dates out by christmas (most of our guests are traveling 300+ miles) so we want to give them plent of time to get hotels and plane tickets etc.
i want to barf. lol. i still need to pick a venue! the one i like, FH thinks is too expensive (even though my parents are paying for it) so it's back to the drawing board. doh!
I've got my Venue down, just waiting for the final contract negotiations to sign.
Wedding florist is confirmed .. made my deposit.
Wedding party is also off the list.
Ceremony dress and reception dress is bought!! Woo hoo
Getting stuff done early has gotten us some amazing deals!
And since I last posted, now I have a dress and a DJ. Still trying to find a photographer as our first 2 choices are already booked! (OH MY GOD seriously)
oye..i thought i was ahead out the planning gate..but we just booked the reception venue yesterday..nothing else.
Hello All! I'm so happy I'm on pace with everyone else. I was starting to think we were falling behind. We have our date, venue, and bridal party. We are meeting with the pastor in 2 weeks and have started listening to bands and doing tastings for caterers. I'm really not feeling wedding dresses and @mshanre makes a great point that they will be on sale/clearance if I just wait a little.
We have our venue, officiant, and photographer. Engagement pictures are in a couple of weeks. I also found my dress, but I'm waiting to buy it until my mom can visit. I DIY'ed save-the-dates but won't send them for quite a while. I think I'm pretty on top of things!
Hi everyone! We just booked venue and set the date today - yayyyyyy! So I am officially an Oct. 1, 2011 bride. =) We have colors, bridal party, and sort of the general "theme" (for lack of a better term - it's NOT a theme wedding, lol) but getting the venue set really made me feel like we were finally on track. I plan to send STDs in January because it's basically a mini-destination wedding for about 80% of the guests (we live in NYC and are both approaching 30, so we have friends from home, college, grad school, NYC, plus family - everyone is scattered all over the country!) - so I thought earlier was better for STDs. I have gone dress shopping once and have a couple more appointments booked - and my mom and grandmother are coming up so we can (hopefully!) buy it in November. My big concern is we are planning from a distance, so we aren't going to be able to get back down to the wedding venue (in South Carolina) until after Christmas - is that WAY too late to book DJ/photog/etc??? I hesitate to make final decisions on any of those vendors without actually meeting them...
Hi Twins :)
I have my Venue (which is Ceremony, Reception, Caterer, Cake etc...) booked, and minister. I am hoping my STD's will be out in either November or January (I don't want them to go in December bc I'm afraid they will get lost in the holiday chaos) I am in the process of getting a photographer, and am going to start dress shopping this month.
@Future Mrs. Archibald: I don't think it's way too late to book those things, I looked at all the things that needed to be booked and went through them to decide what was so important it had to be taken care of right away. I feel like there are TONS of Photographers and TONS DJ's that there will be options still available.

I set my date for October 2011, thinking that I had a ton of time, but now I am realizing that I can't procrastinate forever :)...
Just curious, but what are your timelines? I am thinking I will start looking for Save the Dates in Jan/Feb, send them out in April, and send invitations in August? Also, I am thinking of starting looking for a dress this fall- since summer is always busy for me...
Let me know what your are!!!
