Ok, I am so excited we are in 2012 and our wedding's are finally almost here (yes, I know we have 10 months) but I tell you it is going to fly by :)

Is this what you expected/wanted? Believe it or not, it's not. I thought I would get married in a sexy mermaid style dress but I guess I was too short because it didn't fit me right. (I'm 5'2)
Does you FI know your style of dress? Nope, he thinks he does because I had a bunch of style on my laptop that he kind of seen but I did that on purpose, lol.
Have he seen your dress? NOPE, he promised he won't look at it.

Did you have your dress picked before you got engaged? No, I hadn't even looked really!
Is this what you expected/wanted? Not really...I always liked the dresses with skirts like it, but didn't think I'd be able to pull it off!
Does you FI know your style of dress? A little; I described it a little bit, but it was hard to describe so I'm sure he has no idea really.
Have he seen your dress? Nope! Not until October 13!!

Are you making alterations to it? Yes, taking off the sleeves (which are tucked into the dress below) It's the Maggie Sottero Bernadette, which normally has lace straps/sleeves and a keyhole back, but they're chopping them off so I have a sweetheart neckline and deep vee back.
Who is the designer? Maggie Sottero.. just said that, oops.
Did you have your dress picked before you got engaged? Nope
Is this what you expected/wanted? Kinda... I went in knowing I wanted a vintage fit and flare, but I was torn between lace and satin. Lace won!
Does you FI know your style of dress? He's heard me talk about it, so maybe... but I kinda think he blocks me out when I speak of wedding things haha

@sweetcV2B: I agree, i don't think you need one and I love your dress. All that drama is great. (I watch to much Say yes to the Dress) lol
Show us your dress? (Here's the sample a size too small. My acutal dress comes in this month. It will hopefully lay flat-er in the back v-area and won't squish my bust as much)
Are you making alterations to it? Just getting it taken in if need be. Other than that, no.

Is this what you expected/wanted? Generally, yes. I saw myself in a sweetheart neckline with either an a-line or mermaid style. I was undecided on my stance of lace and illusion straps, and had no opinion on sparkle level. I ended up with lace, illusion straps, and the sparklies dress I've ever seen. (It's beaded out the wazzoo. See?)
Does you FI know your style of dress? He knows its not a gigantic cake toper dress, because that was his one request and I told him that he got that much. He wanted to be able to dance with me all night without my dress being in the way.
Has he seen your dress? Nope, and he won't until I walk through the doors to come down the aisle to him on our wedding day.

Are you making alterations to it? No, not unless I lose a ton of weight...
Who is the designer? Not sure, it's from David's Bridal.
Did you have your dress picked before you got engaged? No way.
Is this what you expected/wanted? Nope. I wanted a really sleek black dress. I went to try on styles and came home with this lacy, sparkly, tea length dress.
Does you FI know your style of dress? Yes, he help me pick it out!
Has he seen your dress? Yep.
@cardnasac OMG I absolutely LOVE your dress! It is so timeless and elegant!! It is seriously one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen.
Show us your dress? see below! I don't have the GREATEST photos. We took hurried pictures inside the boutique and it was DARK so we had to use the flash. That made the dress look way shinier than it looks irl. Also I will obviously have it pressed and that will make the ruching and the fold-y part in the front of the skirt lie flatter instead of how it is now.
Are you making alterations to it? I just have to have it hemmed because I'm wearing flats, but other than that it fits me perfectly off the rack! I shopped at a small consignment boutique that buys up dresses from stores that go under here.

Did you have your dress picked before you got engaged? Nope, never even looked.
Is this what you expected/wanted? Not at ALL! I thought I wanted a vintage-y lace sheath with a keyhole back! Even my mom and sisters all had that in mind for me. I was open to trying on different styles - all I knew for SURE was that I did not want a ballgown, excessive beading, or a corset-style back. And even though my dress isn't what I had in mind, it's none of those things so I succeeded in that aspect haha. My mom saw this hanging in the boutique and asked me to try it on, and we all immediately knew it was the one. We all cried when they put on the veil too.
Does you FI know your style of dress? No! He knows it's different that what I had in mind, and he's glad about that because he thinks lace gowns look like nightgowns lol. That's all he knows though, and he will know NOTHING else about it until I walk down the aisle. No First Look for this bride!

Is this what you expected/wanted? It is, I picked it out online, and it was the first one I saw when I walked in the store, I tried it on first, followed by about 20 others and I knew it was the one for me.
Does you FI know your style of dress? Nope, he knows it has some pearls on it, but thats about it
Have he seen your dress? Nope and he doesnt wanna and gets mad if I talk about it near him, I am bad at keeping secrets lol

@spoiledvamp27: Thanks, though I'm considering changing the sash out for the original ivory one that came with it. I'm afraid that blue shoes and a brooch bouquet will make it all too busy.
@Aure: Ah,, I understand. My dress is super sparkly and I almost got rid of my brooch bouquet idea, but it was really important to me due to some of the brooches belonging to passed loved ones, and beacuse gathering the brooches for my bouquet was the last good memory with my grandmother before she passed away a few weeks after the engagement. So I said, screw it. It may be a sparkle overload but I'm doing it anyway.

Are you making alterations to it? Yes, I'm so short (5'1) so there has to be a lot of hemming. Plus the sample was one size too small and we ordered the gown a size up just in case so I'm sure I'll have to take it in some.

Did you have your dress picked before you got engaged? No, my consultant was amazing and picked this dress out for me.
Is this what you expected/wanted? Somewhat. I knew I liked the romantic look and was leaning towards Alita Graham, but those dresses fell a bit flat. I almost walked away with nothing until they pulled my dress!
Does you FI know your style of dress? Yes, he knows what the overall look I was trying to achieve.
Have he seen your dress? Yes, we have to take reception pictures so it won't be a surprise. He loves it as much as I do!
Thank you! I love the beading and the lace on your dress. I initially wanted beading and I always have adored lace but my sister (who was married this past June) got a dress that had both, so I decided to go a different route. =( Maybe for a vow renewal.

This is my FIRST POST and I'm really excited. I hope you ladies will help keep me sane...seriously. I had a major breakdown for the first 2 weeks over the stress of planning but my SUPER MOM and I are taking it head on. My wedding is October 6, 2012. Our location is not typical. It's at a nature preserve and the reception is in the former owner's mansion. It's a beautiful colonial home. We plan to have 125 people. The wedding is all vintage, DIY and a country feel (we lived in Vermont and my fiancee is from the Midwest). Due to the location...it's also very foresty and so I keep joking saying I'll look like a "forest nymph".
We are adding crinoline to the interior of the dress for a little more UMPH! and as you see, I added a dusty rose handmade belt to cover the white grosgrain (the only part of this dress that I felt was really out of place in the design). I wish I had a good back photo but the dress was much too large for me so the clips mushed it all up.
The dress is the Watters Sydney. I didn't have anything picked before our engagement, in fact this engagement was a complete surprise. This is EXACTLY how I pictured my wedding dress. As much as I wanted to go all out with a crazy large cupcake insanity dress...I knew my personality was much too quirky and wasn't going to go with something so predictable.
My fiancee has been told details of the dress but it's so vague to him that he has no clue. He won't see my dress until I walk down the aisle...that's extremely important to me.
Oh and just for a little laugh...this was the dress I had to try on because it was so over the top...it's NOT my personality but it's adorable. All I can say is...adorable. It also looks well fitted because it happened to be my size...however the one I chose is WAY more me. (note to self: get rid of the swimsuit strap tan lines)

unfortunately, yes. hopefully you can't tell from the pic, but the dress has a major case of cone boobs that needs to be taken care of immediately.

it was the first dress I fell in love with online, and the first one I tried on. my two must haves were straps/sleeves and lace.

I think so? Before trying on dresses I showed him pictures of styles that I liked to make sure that we were on the same page, but I doubt that he remembers.
Have he seen your dress?
he saw the stock photo before I started shopping, but claims that he doesn't remember the details of any of the dresses I made him look at, which is good because he wants the wedding to be the first time.
@ohsusanna: Welcome Date Twin! Your venue sounds amazing. I especially love the detail of the sash on your wedding dress.
