    Hey October 2012 Brides!

Now, I consider myself a very healthy eater and I maintain a very healthy lifestyle but since my wedding is coming up I found myself buckling down to tone up for my big day. I know I am not the only bride doing this so I figure we can start this board to help each other out. This board may help motivate each other to achieve that wedding weight loss goal for our weddings in October. I believe when someone is holding you accountable for your goals then you are more aware of it. I know this could go into fitness, but since we are all working toward the same date/deadline - it might be easier to follow here.

I figure we can just post about our weight loss plans and goals, and then encourage one another and update each other about our successes and stumbles. I also will post some motivational words and diet tips for everyone.

    Tip #1- Don't Fad Diet

Fad diets are any trendy diet that promises fast and easy weight loss. Most of these diets do not address the problems that caused you to gain weight in the first place. If you don't learn something about the foods you eat, you will gain the weight back when you reestablish old eating habits.

Want to give it a shot? Sure why not

What is your wedding weight goal? To really tone up to be bikini ready for the honeymoon inMexico, lol.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I already workout, eat pretty well and stay fit but now I am doubling my routine (I think).

Have you started this goal? It’s kind of cold outside but I plan on starting doubling up in April/May.

Do you attend a gym? Yup but our new home has a gym so we are canceling our gym membership when it expires.

Do you workout already? If so what is your activity of choice? I love running but it is cold outside so come on Spring so I can run and train outside.

Does your spouse workout? Yup, 3 time out of the week and he motivates me to hit the gym.

Want to give it a shot? Yes!

What is your wedding weight goal? I want to loose between 10 and 15 pounds and tone up.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I am going to go back on the LA Weight Loss diet that I was on in 2011 and ramp up my walking/jogging. And I'm finally going to use my WiiFit.

Have you started this goal? As of this AM, yes.

Do you attend a gym? No, but I'm tempted to fork out the money and join one and take soem classes.

Do you workout already? If so what is your activity of choice? Yes. I was really dedicated to working out until this Fall. I need to get back to it. I jog and walk on a treadmill and run the stairs at work every couple of hours during the day.

Does your spouse workout? Yes, he's getting going again, too. He's a good motivator until he buckles and eats a pizza. LOL.

Here's to our goals! We can do it! I lost 37 pounds in 2011, so I know it's possible. :)

@cardnasac: thanks for the welcome.Smile I know I can do it if I can find the motivation. It's just hard to get motivated when I spent so many months working at it this past year. I need to change my mindset. I was loosing up to 3 lbs a week last year simply because I was following the diet and working out 100% by the guidelines.

Things that derailed me: hearing people say how you are forever trying to loose that last 10 lbs. Counselors mentioning people cheating on the system...hadn't dawned on me that I could cheat a bit and still loose weight (um, that slowed things down!) and a fitness person at the gym saying, we can't guarantee where you'll loose weight (on my body) when I said that I wanted to concentrate on my mid-section. My ex-husband saying that I looked like shit and need to gain weight (skewed viewpoint). So, I'm blockinig those thoughts and I'm concetrating on completing my journey.

I could really use the support from those who accept this challenge and I'm a great cheerleader, so here's to our goals and success at reaching our goals.

    Today:

I've eaten well today, yay, and now I'm about to get on the treadmill. I'm fairly certain that if I can get a couple successful days behind me that I'll be back on track. It certainly doesn't help that we have a ton of social engagements this month and the next, plus a number of cake tastings. Yep, me and the treadmill are going to be best of buds!

My treadmill goal for the night is to burn 200 to 215 calories in 30 minutes. Not an overly ambitious goal, but one that I'm comfortable with.

    Upcoming:

I think I'm going to take up the challenge of running in the Crazylegs Classic for the first time. It's April 28th this year, so I have a bit of time to get myself ready. My FI has been hoping that I'd give in and do it. He has friends who run it every year and he's run it once.

    What works for you?

Want to give it a shot? Yes

What is your wedding weight goal? To actually gain muscles and tone up. I would really like to gain 15 more lbs (yes I know I'm the opposite) and I know that by toning up I'll gain muscle mass.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? First of all I have to quit smoking but it's so hard. I have started doing Zumba again and it's helping with cardio and cutting back on the smoking. Now just got to add the weights in there.

Have you started this goal? Yes, I do Zumba with my Wii 3x a week and have started including the weights.

Do you attend a gym? No, I feel a bit self conscious when I go to the gym

Do you workout already? If so what is your activity of choice? Zumba

Does your spouse workout? Yes he started this month. He wants lose some weight for the wedding and muscle up a bit more.

OMG... I'm hoping to be an October 2012 bride!!! We got engaged in November and are in the process of selecting/booking our venue. We should have figured things out by the end of the month. I'm hoping we book October 20, 2012. They have it available and penciled us in, it's just a matter of fine-tuning the details.

I have not started working out yet because I have been SO busy at work!!!!! But I lost about 30 lbs over a year ago and have maintained it besides fluctuating with about 3-4 pounds. This week I have started to get really on track with work, so hopefully by next week I will be ahead and begin then. I would like to lose about 10-15 lbs and tone up. It's just hard to get to the gym when it is so cold because I live in a city and there is no parking... and walking can be SO COLD on some days. I have to stop making excuses and do it!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Good luck to everyone!!!

@Chery_L: Wow, thanks for sharing your story. I truly believe everyone has a story behind their weight and the battle to keep it on or off. So knowing you are not alone can go a long way. Its a new day and new year. A BIG year for us all.

Again, I don't diet, I maintain a health lifestyle. I don't eat red meat or pork. I haven't eating this in over 18 years. I also cut down on carbs and fried food. Don't get me wrong, I treat myself every now and again and will eat some fries or pizza but its a treat. However, I've learned to eat in potions. Just because a box of pizza is in front of me doesn't mean I have to eat the whole box. I've learn to focus on what I'm eating and it became natural to eat fruits and veggies or yogurt and oatmeal instead of chips, ice cream and cookies. I also don't drink soda and I mainly drink water and juice. Also, try to snack more instead of eating large meals.

Working out should be fun not a chore. Find something you find fun to do and do it more and more. (yoga, walking, biking, swimming, etc). The race on April 28 should be fun, try to work towards that race. You don't have to be the fastest runner just finish it.

Try, walking at lunch instead of sitting at your desk. Park your car far away from the store so you can walk further into the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. These are the things I do on a daily basis and it works for me.

@couawilou: Zumba is cool. My FI is also trying to gain weight for the wedding. Try eating more porteins, carbs and dairy. Also, try Ensure or dairy supplement. It's kind of pricey but it really works if you drink about 2-3 a day.

@elovesm: I feel you on the winter workouts. I don't have the motivation in the winter either to run but you can do little things to not add more weight on you until the weather warms up. Keep us posted because the sun (Spring) will be here soon and no one will have excuses, lol. Also, keep us posted on our other October 2012 boards if you stay a October 2012 bride. We have the ring, venue and dress boards going.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I am going to eat healthier...purcahse the px190 DVD, go to the gym and play lots and lots of tennis. I also plan on doing the summer tennins leauge again and doing 2 brackets so double the work out

@cardnasac:  Great thread!  But then, I love all your October 2012 threads.

Want to give it a shot? Yes, please!

What is your wedding weight goal? My main goal is to tone my shoulders/arm/back.  My dress is strapless and dips almost to my waist in the back, so I want to look good!  I'd also like to lose at least 3 pounds.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but I'm so short, 3-5 pounds is very noticeable on me.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I need to start taking classes at the gym, but it's so hard when it's freezing outside.  I'm planning to start toning in earnest in April.  That also gives me less time to backslide.

Have you started this goal? My FI and I challenged ourselves not to eat out for the month of January.  I feel noticeably sleeker and less bloated, so I'd like to keep that up (or at least double down in the month before the wedding).

Do you attend a gym? I have a membership, but I rarely go.

Do you workout already? See above.  My fave workout is Spinning, but it's been too long.

Does your spouse workout? She's just as bad as I am, LOL.

    I want to join in!

Want to give it a shot? Sure!

What is your wedding weight goal? I have an overall goal not just a wedding goal. I'm sure that I will still be working towards that goal come October. Its not necessarily about the number of pounds (although don't get me wrong! I have plenty of pounds I want loose!) but most importantly, I want to be fit.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I We transitioned to a clean diet several months back so I plan to continue with that. I plan to start adding in more exercise too. FI and I are starting the 30 day shred this week!

Have you started this goal? In some ways, yes. We made some pretty drastic changes to our diet. I've lost just shy of 50 pounds since May. I also intentionally part a mile away from my office. Rain or shine, I walk that mile twice a day. I also opt for the stairs versus the elevator whenever possible.

Do you attend a gym? Occasionally I use the gym at work but not on a regular basis.

Do you workout already? See above.

Does your spouse workout? He used to run but has slacked off on that. He's a pretty physical guy though and enjoys doing a lot of work outside so he does get exercise from that. He's starting the 30 day shred with me. Of course, he's the type of guy who can just think about losing weight and drop 10 pounds. ugh!

@cardnasac: It kinda helps that I work for a supplements company so I have been taking progain which is a Protein Energy Nutrition powder that I take in the morning and at night with my food and it has help me so far. Thanks for your tips :-) and thanks for starting this thread, it will be great to encourage each other and help each other out.

@sexxysheddy: P90X was fun but I feel off after a few weeks. I need outside activity. Tennis is cool, I wish my FI and I can play besides on the WII, lol. You are on the right track working out, so just add a balance meal and you good to go. I also love wine and to this day, don't see anything wrong with it but fried chicken- I gave up a long time ago but I still eat wings, does this count? lol Good luck and keep us posted.

@LittleRiver: Hey girl, thanks for joining our newest post :)

Now, I agree with you on this winter weather and working out. Just not feeling it, lol. But those last 5 lbs are the worse. I have been trying to lose it for a while now and I plan on really focusing on it for the wedding. So we are on the same page of toning and stuff. Thanks for joining our board and keep us posted on your progress.

Oh yay, I'm so happy I found this thread!!! :)  Thanks for starting this!!

Want to give it a shot? Abso-freakin-lutely!

What is your wedding weight goal? I have been hovering around 160 for the last year or so, I'd love to drop 15-20lbs and be at a never before seen (likely since middle school) 140-145.  My heaviest was 242 during college (eek!), so I've come a LONG way over the years and just need to get over this last hump to my final goal and MAINTAIN :)

How do you plan on achieving this goal? Continue to lead a healthy lifestyle and forget about the word "diet" -- adding more activity where I can.  I usually do great with a schedule during the week, it's weekend temptations that I want to conquer!

Have you started this goal?  Yes, I'm a faithful member of MyFitnessPal (jessmsu81) and seem to do quite well while logging honestly, it's such a positive, encouraging community - like the behive!  Feel free to join me! :)  Also working on making exercise a priority, not something to "excuse" my way out of!

Do you attend a gym? No.... I'm totally lazy!  I have a gym membership, but I don't go anymore.  I have a treadmill in my apartment now (borrowed from a family member)... so I have been using that and some DVD's to burn cals.

Do you workout already? If so what is your activity of choice? The treadmill seems to be the easiest... I'm big on run/walk intervals.  I need more toning though, so I vow to bring more weights into the mix... :)

Does your spouse workout? No, he has metabolism on his side (lucky).  He does have ambitions to workout and bring the muscle definition back, but I don't think he'll actually do it until we have a home gym in the basement of our future home... hehe :)  He's my biggest supporter/encourager though!

@HummusGal: Hello and thanks for sharing. Now, most people don't realize it (including myself for a long time) but you burn more calories and lose more weight when you lift weights. Now you don't have to be over the top and be a body builder but a few weights will help tone and you lose more weight in the end. I am so not a trademill person, I have tried so may times but I just can't do it. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress.

Want to give it a shot? Def!

What is your wedding weight goal? I don't need to loose any but I certainly need to get toned back up so I have some sexy arms/shoulders to rock in my strapless dress!

How do you plan on achieving this goal? Continuing to get back in to training (running) and doing more toning/weight work at the gym.

Have you started this goal? Yuppers!

Do you attend a gym? Yes and I use it regularly, at least 2-3 times a week. I crosstrain at the gym on my off running days.

Do you workout already? If so what is your activity of choice? I am a runner but suffered a severe stress fracture last year that took me out for 9 months so I am just starting over. Up to 1.5 miles, 3x a week, excited to bump up to 2 miles next week! I'm hoping to run a half marathon this Spring and then another just before the wedding in September.

Does your spouse workout? He's currently training for a marathon, so definitely!

@cardnasac: I'm so excited to learn you are a runner too!!! Are you a distance runner at all? Before the injury last year I was training for marathon #3! I am so loving being able to be back at it... even in this cold ass weather! :)

@phoenixandstars: Hey fellow runner. I ran my first half in October and I loved it. I also suffered an injury and had knee surgery in 2010 and didn't run for almost 6 months. It suck because I was also training for my half then and had to stop and start all over after the surgery. So running my first half in October 2011 was such a big accomplishment for me. I would also like to run a few other races before our wedding including another half but I don't know. The half I ran in October is on the day after our wedding this year, lol. But I may train for a few 10k's when the weather gets nice and maybe another half if I can find a flat race because of my knee I really can't run hills and heavy inclines.

@cardnasac:  Congrats on your first half!!! I can only imagine how awesome if felt to cross that finish line after the surgery and all that. I will definitely be feeling the same way when I'm finally able to run at full capacity again. The first half I finish will be such a milestone! I don't really know much about NM racing but I bet you have some fun ones there... if not a little warm in the summer eh? :) When I lived in Florida the summers were soooooooooooooooooooooooo hot and humid! I def don't miss that part of living and training there. I actually kinda enjoy running here in Michigan, even in the really cold and snow. It's just the ice here that's dangerous. Definitely let me know your upcoming races! We can virtually cheer each other on! :)

@phoenixandstars- Virtually cheer, lol. I love it. NM has the best running weather because there is no humidity so I love it. But I am pretty sure to find something here. We just moved to NM a few months ago so I am still trying to call it home and find the best races. Keep me posted on your weight and running progress.

    Hello October Bee's

Here is our tip of the week

Tip #2 Avoid skipping meals. Eating increases your matabolism, thus skipping meals can 'trick' your body into slowing down its metabolism in an attempt to conserve calories during a period it perceives as a situation where limited fuel is available. So try to eat in order to lose weight. I know it sounds crazy but it helps. I eat small snacks thoughout the day, this helps me not be hungry and eat less during real meals. Hope these tips are helping, have a great week ladies. Post your progress.

@cardnasac:  Great advice and SO TRUE!! I eat 5 times a day... 3 meals of roughly 300-350 calories and two snacks that each are about 100-150 calories.  Keep your metabolism going and helps me with the mindset that food is FUEL.

Anyone here using MyFitnessPal??  I've had great success in tracking my food, exercise, water intake, etc and it's a positive community, just like Weddingbee!  Feel free to friend me ladies...:)  PM if you're interesting in joining in!

@cardnasac:  Ha! Well, I'm using the LoseIt! app for iPhone to track my calories. It is awesome and totally free. I have been working out a bit more too, but not as much as I should be. We have an elliptical and a rowing machine in our basement so I really have no excuse!

@Over the Moon: becareful with counting calories, it works great now but remember once you stop you can gain most of that weight back. Try to find some natural ways to lose weight, unless you are planning on counting calories your whole life :( I guess once you learn the calories you eat you may not even need that app. You got to love FREE. I wish I had workout equipment in my home, lol. But our new house is located across the street from the Club house gym so I will have no excuse when we move in next month. Thanks for sharing.

@cardnasac:  @Over the Moon:  As a calorie counter... I just wanted to say, the beauty of doing so, at least for a few months is that it is really eye opening just how quickly the calories add up throughout the day.  It's beneficial to help you realize how much you truely should be eating and to really think through whether something that SOUNDS good, really is good for your body.  I definitely don't intend to count calories forever (THAT WOULD SUCK), but for now, it's working quite well!  I used to use the LoseIt app, but I switched to MyFitnessPal a little over a year ago.  It also helps you keep track of other things that are even more important than calories -- like protein, fiber, sodium, etc... :)  Good luck!

Just wanted to post an update.  FI and I completed our January challenge of eating all of our meals at home.  We normally eat out (or grab takeout) 3-4 nights a week, so this was a big change for us!  I don't weigh myself, but I would guess I lost about 3 pounds doing this.  My mom noticed that my arms look thinner!  Also, FI and I both noticed that we felt healthier and had more energy.  The trick will be maintaining until the wedding....we went out with friends last night to celebrate the end of the challenge, and this morning I am super bloated from all the salt!  It is so easy to undo!  I think we will do an encore of the challenge in the month before the wedding to lose the bloat.

@HummusGal:  Thanks for the update. I agree, short term goal- counting calories really do work. It can help stay in the loop on what you eat and maybe practice that same eating habit when you stop focusing on couting them.

Would you believe ladies, we have 8 more months to go? I finally hit the gym today with my FI. It felt pretty good.

@LittleRiver:  Nice, congrats on the change in your diet. Not only will eating in help your diet, it will also help your pockets, lol. My FI and I try to eat out (treat ourselves) about 1 maybe 2 times a week. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting your update.

Want to give it a shot? YUP!

What is your wedding weight goal? I would love to tone up and get down to about 150-155, which is about 15-20 pounds.

How do you plan on achieving this goal? I just joined Golds Gym and jumped my working out alot, not i need to work on my diet. WHich i'm slowly trying to figure out.

Have you started this goal? Yes I have, still working on the food aspect though.

Do you attend a gym? Just joined in the middle of Jan~!

Do you workout already? Yes, I work out every morning on a epitical at home, I just added working out on my lunch break and once on the weekend.

Does your spouse workout? He does not, but he might be joining the gym in the spring.
