Hello!
I got married exactly one month ago today here in Atlanta! And let me tell you, we had a blast:) I highly recommend all of our vendors, they were great to work with and a good value!
We had our ceremony on the Dock in Piedmont Park. It rocked.
Our reception was at Stella Restaurant, which ended up being the best deal ever. $7k for a Saturday nigh restaurant buyout, all food and beer & wine open bar. Unfortunatley, they are closing and converting to a Doc Cheys [and only fits under 100 folks]. Definitley check out Canoe Restaurant, they might cut you a good deal since they reopend this week after the flooding!
My advice would be to get a restaurant - no rental fees!
We hired Daria MacGregor of Circle of Love weddings, and she was FAB. Seriously, I did everything myself [no florist] and she & an assistant decorated, set-up, ran the show and, most importantly, cleaned up afterwards. Both sides of the family all had wonderful things to say about her helpfulness. Contact at: http://www.circleofloveweddings.com/
Check out my blog if you are intersted in an Atlanta bride's story [& my friend's DC wedding story]! http://www.ataleoftwobrides.blogspot.com/
I second Canoe. It's our fave restaurant. Beautiful gardens too and I've been to events there for a professional society and their white tent by the river is just gorgeous.
Canoe is one of those places where you almost don't need that much decor because you've got gorgeous gardens surrounding you and the river.
I have a friend who's a florist and if my wedding is in town next summer, she will be the one to do it (just saw her out last week and she's ready and can't wait for my ring to land!). She does free-lance work but is also associated with a large event design group and does flowers for them, but I'd just work with her. She's great! And can do some amazing things on a budget :)
Btw, there's also a great place near me in Cumming called "Tam's Backstage". It's adjacent to the Cumming Playhouse which is an antique type schoolhouse turned theater. Tam's is a restaurant with a garden out back that's beautiful. There are also two event rooms upstairs and the rooms are (if I'm correct) free if you spend a certain amount on food and so are the gardens. One room is designed after a "Midsummers' Night Dream" and the other is "Phantom of the Opera". The owner also knows of a lovely barn beside a lake that's fabulous for weddings too.
Tam's is gaining notoriety as a great venue and I can attest their food is wonderful. (My son craves their calamari). It's a different place and could work for a modest budget but be made to be a wedding looking like a million bucks.
Oh, do Mason Murer! http://www.masonmurer.com/weddings.htm
It's fabulous, an art gallery, and totally amazing. Look around the website at some of their events/their space. It's ridonk.
A wedding that I looove that was shot there:

That's really gorgeous Fitty! That's beautiful for an indoor space and very unique. I love the duality of the space and the way you can utilize it differently.
I'm an outdoors wedding gal and love having some sort of water nearby. I think it's b/c I'm a fire sign (aries) and need some cooling down!!! lol!
Lol! I'm an indoors-girl and having an outdoors wedding! Go figure! :) I love either the sort of outside tent-land wedding like we're doing, or something in a really industrial/gallery/funky space. My parents' house just won out over funky. Stupid "Father of the Bride." :p
Oh, and check out Joy Thigpen for event design, and Amy Osaba for flowers. And Our Labor of Love for photos. :)
I still am lovin' the idea of your wedding. It's gonna be wild when we get around to the venue for ours. We have several good options and it's going to be just crazy finding time to do that.
We both really do want a beachy wedding though. But I want elegant. So it's gonna be intimate/beachy/elegant somehow. Unless we decide on ATL then we'll do outdoors/intimate/elegant.
Geez. At least us ATL/Ga bees have options! We gots lotsa options!!!!
This is like me. I haz optionz.

Lolol. I love that. :)
We actually thought about doing beach at first! My fiance first told me he loved me at my parents beach house, and then a year later he proposed there! It's in Seagrove Beach, FL, so we were considering having the wedding at one of the greens in Rosemary Beach.
I feel like I could plan like 40 different weddings. :p
hey mel! So i am getting married next ocotber as well, only in vegas. but my wedding planner is here in atlanta. her name is Dawn Cowart and this is her site
http://www.traditionallymodern.com/
she is super nice, very reasonable, and has given great wonderful ideas and advice i never knew i needed! so i highly reccomend her!
and if you dont want her to plan the whole thing, she has options to help just the day of.
let me know if you ever talk to her!
Very awesome ideas ladies....Looking forward to the wedding planning...Mason Murer sounds great....
Also check out King Plow Arts Center (I think that's the full name, I at least know it's King Plow!) It's also an awesome venue, especially if you are interested in Mason Murer.
My friend does the florals for Events by Dezine and she's fabulous. I'd much rather have her as a free-lance. She travels pretty much the whole metro area. You should see some of her work.
Lemme know if you need her number!
@belle- We're pretty win at hawking Atlanta vendors. :p I feel like we need to have an official Atlanta list of vendors by style, price-point, and level of awesome.
Hey someone just told me about the Ga Freight Depot too, going to check it out this week...Soooo....looks like my list has grown from nothing to The Tabernacle, Ga Freight Depot, Mason Murer and King Plow, or some garden/tent in Decatur...:-)
I'll keep you posted. Found an amazing Planner...Carol King...she owns all of her decor and creates fabulous weddings on a budget...amazing, she has packages ranging from $6500 to 11,000 for 100 people, inlcudes EVERYTHING...AMAZING!! However, I have 250 people and she's still working with me on Budget...she's awesome, let me know if you want her contact info ladies....
Actually...DO NOT USE CAROL KING!!! In the process of suing her...1 month before my wedding...
We're using:
Hair/Mu: Jennifer Denise - www.jenniferdenise.com
Photography: Kelly Embry Photography - www.kellyembryweddings.com
Venue: Either Rhodes Hall or the Biltmore (waiting to meet with both of them next week)
Dress: J. Crew (who doesnt just love the idea of pockets in your wedding dress?!)
My SIL is a coordinator, so she's doing that.
i have no clue where to even start with flowers, lol.
Thats all we've got for now....
Ya'll we loved our intimate reception!
For 50 or less guests, Sugo Restaurant has a beautiful event space (we go to the Johns' Creek location) and our reception there turned out fabulous and the guests are still raving about the food..you can also have your cake there, entertainment, photography, the whole 9 yards...
They were amazing and wonderful to work with!
@melmatmelly: I agree with you! We are also pursuing a case against Carol King!

Hello ladies!!
Planning a wedding for October and wondering what some others think...
I was looking to have a night time wedding with ceremony and reception in one location also with a cocktail hour and light dinner at the reception.
Seems like all the locations in atlanta are booking fast and wondered if anyone had any reccomendations besides the same old, same olds....budget is as much under 30k as possible for no more than 250 guests.
Also, what are your thoughts on wedding planner, day of coordinator, or DIY
Thanks
MEL
