Your German welcome party sounds amazing!

We are having a rehearsal dinner, which I am very excited about. I expect it to be fun and low-key and a chance to hang out with our closest family and friends without all the pressure.

I’m also excited about getting ready with my girls the day of, though it’s not really a party, it feels like it.

We aren’t doing any other parties, and I have no regrets about that. The wedding itself is enough!

My bridal shower was a pretty low key affair. My fiance’s aunt hosted it and she’s pretty hoity toity, so it was some cold foods, wine and cheese and gifts, plus the ribbon hat.

My bachelorette party was steak, a female burlesque show, heavy drinking, a kickass limo and a club. Plus all the cliche party games (LOVED IT)!

Our rehearsal dinner is a few blocks from the hotel at a place called “The Big Easy”. It’s Cajun food and I must admit I love the irony of our pre-wedding meal, ending an 8+ year courtship being held at the BIG EASY.

I’m trying to also coordinate a meal the night before the rehearsal dinner for people who show up early. I’m originally from NJ and most of our guests are flying/driving in, plus they don’t see us very often. So everyone wants a piece of us pre-wedding. We’re going to try.

I have the bridal shower this Sunday. Due to work stress my bridesmaid couldn’t plan it until late, and so not a lot of FI’s family can come since they’ll be traveling up the following weekend for the wedding. But it’ll be a lot of fun with a small group of girls I know from work and church, I’m getting kind of nervous since I dont want to be the center of attention! The bachelorette party will be the Friday before the wedding. We waited until my sister would be in town to come with us and I am pumped! We’re going to float the river on inner tubes, have a nice dinner, and then go out for lots of drinks and dancing. All I requested was  a bachelorette crown and sash. 🙂

we are having a lot of stuff… its been a crazy year plus of planning!

I decided that I didn’t want a “traditional” engagement party because they aren’t really all that common where I am from (boston) but they are very common where I now live (nyc) but so many people were excited once we were engaged that I ended up throwing a little “cocktails and congratulations” party at our place with loads of champagne! it was really fun and I am glad that it wasn’t a big to do since I still really am anti having to get yet another gift for the couple and I just didn’t want that.

I also had two bridal showers – one my mom threw in boston and one from my MIL in ct. They were both really nice and your standard bridal brunch type thing… we had about 40 p at my mothers and about 20 at my MILs.I will give my MIL a lot of credit she gave out a SUPER nice favor (pampered chef baking dish!) and it was a nice restaurant with a cute private room!

I also had 2 bachelorettes.. one in boston w my sister who is a MOH and was pregnant at the time. We did a really nice dinner at this moroccan place with belly dancers and it was a lot of fun – I don’t even know how we ate (but oh did we eat!!!!) because we were just dying laughing the whole night! I even got up and did a little dance with the professional dancers! My second was in NYC and was more of your standard all out bar party. We got a table and bottle service, I wore a tiara and a sash (or at least posed for a few pictures with them on!) ate candy and cookies, had many many many many drinks, played a bit of truth or dare and then ended the night with a crazy dance party back at my house with the boys (“fresh” from the strip club!!! haha we kept joking we were going to hose them down outside before we would let them touch us!) before passing out and then doing a bagel run in the morning for some bacon to settle the stomachs

for the actual wedding weekend we are hosting like 5 events!

friday evening we have the actual rehearsal and dinner for the bridal party and a few family friend. This is one of the meals I am most excited for since its a super cute farm to table restaurant that will be served family style…. yum!

friday night we have a welcome reception for everyone at the bar in our hotel (private inn that we will be the only guests all weekend) with a DJ, photobooth, bar, and bar food buffet. We just wanted to have a casual fun night with all our friends and my cousins (mainly my age) that wasn’t so formal and stuffy. My family also has a tradition to serende the bride the night before the wedding and keep her up all night dancing! I won’t be staying up all night (we told the bar to shut us off at midnight!) but its a fun family tradition.

we have brunch, golf and a whiffle ball game on saturday morning… though I will end up in my suite getting dolled up around 11 so I will miss everything but brunch.

then of course the actual wedding saturday night which is going to be from 4 pm – 12 am! we really went a bit crazy with adding so many extras but our guests will definitely be drunk and full and happy.

finally sunday we end it all with a goodbye brunch in the morning

we don’t leave for the mini-moon until tuesday morning so I think that sunday afternoon we will hang out and dish with my family while we pack up (so much DIY!) and open presents…. then its get home and get packing!
