I’m doing all orange flowers for bouquets and bouts (roses, calla lillies).  Then there will be mums everywhere used merely as decor.

We’re growing white stock and orange snapdragons and a few other natural, in season wildflowers in my mom’s backyard for the wedding. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fall Flowers (about.com):

Aster * White, Pink

Chrysanthemum * White, Yellow, Orange, Pink, other colors

Dahlia * Many Colors

Marigold * Yellow, Orange, Red

Statice * Purple

Zinnia * Red, orange, pink

Sunflowers * Yellow, Large and Small

We’re going with the purple roses, sunflowers, dahlias, etc. You can find some beautiful in season flowers! Here is my inspiration, but we’re using sunflowers instead of calla lilies and throwing in some dahlias.

@KIKI82 did your florist tell you why the Black Magic are more expensive at that time of year? I’ve been doing events for a long time and my understanding is that roses are pretty much always in season here in SoCal. Check out The California Cut Flower Commision website, they pretty much back that up http://www.ccfc.org/. The only thing I can think of is your wedding being around Halloween, these roses are VERY popular for halloween because of how dark they are. Take a trip down to the LA flower mart and look for some alternatives if you’re after the dark red roses, the guys down there are always really helpful to with info and alternatives. You may find somthing REALLY close that doesn’t cost as much (if you need to save some money). That site is a GREAT resource for anyone getting married in California for looking to see what flowers are in season. It’s also a good research point for other locations, check to see if there’s a commision in your state.

We’re doing flowers from the local farmer’s market for our wedding.  When I went on our date last year, the most gorgeous flowers were sunflowers and ranunculus in orange, yellow, and red.  However, those are Wisconsin’s local October flowers.  I agree with the oranges and deep reds though …. beautiful!

Roses are versatile because they come in almost any color.  Still deciding if I am going to order in bulk online or make a trip to the farmer’s market.

We are doing dahlias (pink for me, white for the girls). But there are also lisianthus, ranunculus, roses (available year round), mums, delphinium that are available in the fall. What colors are you looking for?
