We are getting married at the end of Sept, and we are pretty close to deciding on Brazil -- it's warm, the beaches are beautiful and there is lots of fun city/culture and nature/adventure. Good luck!
I was married on Oct. 11th this past year, so good choice in dates :) We went to Barbados since it was (along with Aruba) outside of the hurricane belt. We had rainy weather the first day and a half, but the rest of the trip was great. If you have the time & money I would suggest staying out of the Carribean and head to Hawaii. We live on the East Coast, so the travel time to Hawaii was a bit much... I've also heard wonderful things about Santorini, Greece & Costa Rica (I'm guessing they might have some crazy bugs there though). Good luck!
We are going on a cruise to Mexico for 7 days! We've been on a cruise before and we loved it :). It is so relaxing and the food is awesome. Theres so many things to do on a cruise such as going to the spa, gym, swimming, eating, gambling, shopping and sightseeing when you are docked in a city. Plus theres excursions you can do. You should def look into it because its totally worth it.
Another Oct 2009 bride here...we're having the hardest time picking a HM spot.
So far off the list are:
Costa Rica - rainy season
Caribbean - hurricane season (we go there somewhat frequently so we really do want to go some place new to us)
Argentina - too cold (although I have to look further into the weather there)
On the list:
Brazil - Mrs Boots, where are you going there?
Greece/Amalfi Coast - hesitant b/c of the euro but by the time October rolls around it might not be so bad.
Egypt - might be to expensive to fly there
I would love some insight on any of these places if you've been.
Where else is everyone going?
We were married on October 11 2008! We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We had a great time but it was the start of the rainy season so we couldn't do as much outdoor stuff as we wanted! If you are looking for sun in October you might want to look somewhere else...
We were married in October 2008 and went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon.
While it was the rainy season we had very little bad weather. We had a downpour when we were high in the rainforest on the zipline and I think it only made it that much more exciting.
Because it is the rainy season the prices were lower and things were rather deserted which was a major plus.
And I had no problem with bugs in Costa Rica.
Though I know it is a crap shoot since it is the rainy season, I still think Costa Rica is worth considering.
We are thinking about going to the coast of Crotia. Its supposed to be very Italian, but cheaper and the road less traveled.
We haven't booked yet, but we're probably going to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, or somewhere else on the west coast of Mexico.
We're getting married October 3, 2009 and we've been looking at these 10 day discovery tours where we get to go to different parts of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. We don't really want to do the whole tropical thing. We love going to museums, national parks, and learning stuff. My boss reccommended seeing New Mexico cause of its beauty and different lifestyle. I'm a sucker for beautiful views and love getting that peaceful appreciation of it all. That's why we're hoping to hit these three states!
We're getting married October 2010 and planning on going to Europe. (France, Germany, Italy whirlwind tour). It's supposedly the 'off' season so it will be cheaper. Plus it won't be so hot like it was when I went in the summer with my family. My boss just took a European cruise in October and the weather was fantastic for her.
Great ideas here! We are also searching for a spot in mid to late October.
Habibi - don't sell Argentina short.... depends on where you go. We went last year the first week of November, and while Buenos Aires was a little chilly, Mendoza (wine region) was hot! You can also hike in the mountains there, if you don't mind putting on a jacket... was fantastic, and once you get there, affordable.
We're interested in Greece, too... I read somewhere that ferries stop heading out in early to mid October, though. Anyone know about that?
We're getting married Oct 22, 2009 in Los Cabos, and we're considering either staying for another 4-5 nights in Cabo at a luxury resort for our honeymoon, or flying somewhere else in Mexico for 4-5 nights (i.e. Riviera Maya or somewhere like that). I think Oct/Nov are great in Mexico, especially Los Cabos!
FI and I are wanting to go to the Smokey Mountains, down in Tennessee. We're already saving up for it. I think we might be going with my cousin (who is a groomsman at our wedding) and his wife. Seprate cabins of course.
It's very beautiful down there. We're planning on staying 5 days. We don't know if we'll leave right after the reception, or a day after. We're working on it. LOL
We're getting married October 16, 2009. We're planning on Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
We got married Oct. 12th 2008. We went to Cancun, Mexico. It is the tail end of hurricane season, so you are taking a slight risk, but I can't recommend it enough. It is CHEAP and QUIET that time of year- perfect for a honeymoon. We got a huge deal on the resort and practically had it to ourselves. It was mostly honeymooners, not crazy parties and families, so it was perfect.
we're getting married on october 16 and going on a caribbean cruise. more specifically, turks & caicos, puerto rico, st. thomas, and the bahamas.
@azwinelover:yay for october 16, 2009!
We can't decide!!
We only have a week, so are thinking of the following:
Costa Rica - http://www.hotelpuntaislita.com/
Italy (just a few stops)
Grand Canyon/Sedona hiking and spa honeymoon
Atlantis in Bahamas
My FI does not like to sit around for a whole vacation so we are trying to think of places that has some ways to really relax but also places with activity. And we live on the east coast so I think a one week honeymoon in Hawaii is out of the question : (
Hey there-
I'm getting married for the second time, am a school teacher and have 5 year old twins. I live in SW Georgia and that is where we are getting married. With having to work aroud school vacations, we decided to avoid the holidays, but settled on fall break for our wedding date. Weather here is mild (mid 60s usually, humidity is down & nights are cool). Part of why we also chose October is because of where we wanted to honeymoon. We are having a Saturday morning wedding on October 17th, followed by a brunch reception. We decided early on that we didn't want to fly anywhere & that we wanted to honeymoon in the mountains.
We are driving up NE of Atlanta after the reception and spending our wedding night at a fabulous Bed & Breakfast. The next day, we are driving up to Tennessee and spending a full week in the Smokies. I've never been, it will be peak leaf season-cool days and cold nights will make for lovely romantic evenings by the fire place. We are renting a secluded cabin high up in the mountains overlooking one of the state parks. We are planning a couple of evenings out (piano bar one night, dancing another, dinner at another really nice restaurant, breakfast one morning out before an "adventure" day that we have planned) but mostly going to the grocery store and disappearing for most of the week. Dinners in town require about a 30 minute drive into town, but we're on our honeymoon-without children-so seclusion is what we were looking for). The luxury cabin has a loft with a king size bed & fireplace, wraparound deck with 6 person hot tub, fireplace on the main floor-it's really nice and I CAN'T WAIT!
We are going on a roadtrip! At first I was a little "eh.." about the idea, but as he started getting way more excited about it, mapping out great locations AND bringing up the idea of a wedding vow renewal in Las Vegas.... It just really sounds like SO much fun, and so much like us!
We are scratching our plans and starting anew. I think we may do one of the following now:
- Turks & Caicos
- St. Kitts/Nevis
- Bermuda
Some other island. We like to live on the edge so are going to take a gamble on the hurricanes : )
WooHoo for St. Kitts and Nevis! I am currently living here (Yay!) so I think it is pretty great! There are some great restaurants and the culture is really amazing and the snorkeling and diving is amazing! The beaches are great too! From one of my favorites beaches we swam out about 40 yards along a rocky bit of the coastline and saw a squid, sea turtle, tons of lobsters, a black spotted eagle ray and a puffer fish! And that was completely free because we just swam out and saw everything. If you are into hiking there is a volcano hike that is really challenging and beautiful. If you are into the spa vacation then the Emerald Mist spa is WONDERFUL! Sorry I didn't mean to ramble on but I really do love it here!
And going in october means that you will miss most of hurrican season as the big ones usually show up in late august to mid september.
We are getting married Oct. 24 '09 and are planning on going to Los Cabos the following week. I really hope will still be there for dia de los muertos :)
@laural - thanks for the tips!! where would you recommend staying!?
I'm getting married Oct. 23rd of this year. This past weekend the FI and I booked our honeymoon to the Bahamas! I'm totally excited. They airline and bahamas are both doing promos for some money off. We are staying at the sandals resort all inclusive and also booked a villa with 24 room service, butler service and rolls royce transfer to n from the airport.
I could not believe how affordable it was!!
Good luck to all my fellow october wedders!!![]()
@Erindesmar: I would definitely recommend the Marriot because it is kinda in the heart of everything. But the new Christophe Harbor is absolutely breath taking. A lot of people actually rent homes around the island for a few weeks. Otteleys Plantation is on the other side of the island from a lot of the activities but if you are looking for relaxation and to truly be on island time that is the place to go! PM if you have any other questions!
This such a great thread. We are getting married on the 16th of October. So everyones suggestions are amazing! We are considering doing the road trip thing to and just take some time to explore!
We're also getting married this October. Right now we're looking at Nuevo Vallarta (north of Puerto Vallarta) and possibly Belize. Anyone have any other suggestions? We want beach, quiet and some seclusion.

Hey Hive,
I am getting married on October 11 of this year (only 9 months to go!) and I was just wondering if anyone had good suggestions for honeymoon hotspots in October. My fiance is actually planning and booking the whole honeymoon as a surprise for me, but I thought that I would give him some ideas to jump start his search.
I am a big fan of the beach, warm weather, europe, etc. I am pretty much open to any ideas.
Oh, but if I could stay away from a place with bugs, that would be fantastic!!!
Thanks for your help guys!
