I make chipmunk faces every time I look in a mirror at work. A bit of entertainment to make the day go faster...
I was just thinking about this this morning... This is a habit I hate that I do (but yet don't change it...) I will leave empty shampoo/conditioner bottles in the shower even after I get new ones until they pile up and get in the way... It's so annoying and I hate it, yet I never do anything about it. lol
ETA: I notice that sometimes if I do run out of conditioner (because I always run out of that first) I can put some water in the empty ones and get enough for one or two more washes, so it does come in handy sometimes... lol
oh, also, this one might gross some people out but I use the toothpick on my swiss army knife. when I'm done, I just wipe it on my sleeve and put it back in the knife. that would seriously gross out some germophobes, but it doesn't bother me at all!
For some reason I like to press the tops of my fingernails on hard surfaces, like countertops or walls. Apparently I did it as a little kid too. I guess I like to know that they're really attached to my fingertips??!
Oh, @janie-janie: I pick that chicken out of my soup faster than you can say "giblets".
I dont know if this counts, but I always rip the crust off my sandwiches- if its normal sliced bread. I don't have a problem with hoogie rolls or anything, and apart from that, I'm not a picky eater at all!
My SO says when I'm really deep in thought, and no one is looking (like I'm working on a project or something) I make a face and kinda stick my tounge out. I have no clue what he's talking about, and he hasnt been able to get a pic- I'm 30, have I done this my whole life when no one was looking?
@janie-janie: I would do this too, but when I take mine out of my purse, its so covered in tobacco crumbs, salty almond crumbs, and lots of icky things I couldnt identify. If I kept the knife in my center consol of my car or something and there's just paper work or pens in there, ya I would actually use the toothpick.
I HAVE to brush my teeth after everything I eat or drink. It will bother me so much if I don't. Chewing gum after I eat or drink isn't really an alternative that satisfies me but obviously I have to settle for it in certain situations. But I will be constantly thinking about how I wish I could brush my teeth.
I don't like my foods to touch, and I eat them one at a time (i.e. @ Thanksgiving, I'll eat all of my turkey, then all of my corn, then my mashed potatos and gravy *gravy is exempt from the no-touch rule*). I've always done this. I was such a big fan of school lunch trays, protecting my food with their happy little compartments
Also, if I'm washing my hands and only one is dirty and needs to be washed, I need to get them both wet. Same for dipping my feet in the lake...if one's wet, I have to get the other wet.
@JessieK: the funny face one... I do that too except I just lick my lips a lot...
which reminded me of another habit I have...
This might be a lefty thing, but when I'm writing a lot or like taking notes my face gets REALLY close to the paper, like barely a couple inches away... People would always be like "are you ok over there?!"
@NDBee: OMG ME TOO!! I always say I need those compartment plates... but the plastic 3 section ones don't cut it when you have a few different sides! I also "save the best for last" which people always laugh at me for...
@NDBee: My sister does the SAME thing with her food! I always joked about getting her cafeteria trays for Christmas!!
I don't put milk on my cereal...EVER. I always eat dry cereal. Sometimes I'll put cereal in my yogurt for the crunch-factor. I also fidget with my earrings if I am thinking or nervous.
I have weird food issues, way to many to list. Nothing that most people notice or impedes me, but sometimes they make DH laugh.
My most noticable habit, I walk En Point when I am nervous. Kind of hard not to notice when someone is walking around on her toes. My mom said that I have done this most of my life, weird.
There has be be balance on my body. For instance, if I step on a dried, crunchy leaf with my right foot, I feel anxious and off balance until I do the same with my left. If DH is playing with one of my nipples, he HAS to do the same to the other one, or I can't concentrate, and start to feel panicky.
ETA: tks, I totally do that too! Ever since I was little!
Another person with food touching issues here! I *hate* it when they touch but it's mostly foods where flavors could mingle. If it's "dry" foods like chicken and fingers and fries, I'm a little more okay with it.
When I eat Cap'n Crunch cereal, I eat all of the yellow pieces before I eat the berries. I've always done it, and I get really mad if I find a random yellow piece that was hiding in all the yummy berries!
@NDBee: I do this too! I always get teased for it though! When I was little, I actually used to have to have a different fork/spoon for each thing on my plate. Now I just resort to wiping it off in a napkin before it touches something else.
I also like to eat with smaller forks and spoons. I hardly ever use a full size one. I'm usually the one using the dessert fork/spoon when we're eathing dinner.
Oh, and if I'm eating a PB&J sandwhich, I break it into pieces before I eat it. This is all making me sound very OCD!
Hmmm, I am ALWAYS washing my hands. I'm a total germ freak. If I feel I touched anything germy at all, I will head to the sink! It gets annyoying, but I like my hands clean.
And lately, I wait until 90% of my clothes are worn and thrown on the floor in a big pile until I wash them. I guess that is what college and work does to me...
@futurewiddy: Aww...your Captain Crunch story made me smile!!! It reminded me of a time my little brother was eating all the "grain" pieces out of a box of Lucky Charms when he was in high school. He was leaving the marshmallows to eat later. He'd come home from school and sit in his recliner playing video games and eating the gross non-marshmallow pieces for days and days.
I didn't know he was doing this. I came home from college one day and had THE MOST AWESOME bowl of fantastically marshmallowy Lucky Charms EVER! Little did I know, I had completly eaten his weeks-long project. He still teases me about this years later!!!
I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT ALONE!!!
My husband and mom make fun of me when I freak out because they have let my food touch when they make a plate for me. I use the plates with different sections and if that's not available I have to use different containers for everything. Oh, I can't use the same fork, spoon, knife, or glass. Even if I drink milk and a little while longer I want more, I have to get a new glass. It drives DH up a wall because of how many dishes we have to wash.
So many weird food habits...I try to abstain from them when I'm at restaurant or eating with a group of people. I like to eat all of the lettuce in my salads first...I tear about my pizza in little tiny pieces and eat one by one...same thing with bagels, sandwiches, etc. I tear up tortillas too and make sort of mini burritos and tacos. I like to eat desserts really really cold (like a stick a slice of pie, cake, and definitely cookies and brownies in the freezer for a bit before eating them).
Oh my god, someone else that eats like me! I love eating my food one at a time and when I go to restaurants and my food touches, I separate them with my fork without being too obvious. lol
Oh my, so many food-freaks like me :-) Glad that I'm not alone, because my family LOVES to tease me about it. Mr.ND purposely mixes his corn into his mashed potatoes to ick me out. *heebies*
@o0olibelulao0o: 3 compartments are so not enough.
@mrs_pugetsound: You should totally get her some trays for Christmas! I would kill for some of the blue swirly ones (they were rare, but there were always a million red ones that looked like vomit, ahha).
@futurewiddy: True, dry foods can touch (but I'll still make a little space once I see it).
@future_schu: Did your mom make you wash all the utensils?! LOL.
@xshellx2003: My mom made me compromise, but let me wash off my plate and fork before getting seconds (goodness forbid I put potatoes where my corn had been, that'd be so nasty!). Don't let your hubby find out that rule!
@leebaby711: Stealthy! I try to be sneaky like that out with new people/business dinners, but ifI'm at home, there are very distinct little piles on my plate :-)
@NDBee: I used to feel the same way about touching food! I kind of got over it in college though. :)
When I think of something negative, I have to knock on wood three times. If I don't find a wooden surface, I go kind of crazy. It drives FI mad when he sees me do it.
I blame my superstitious mom. :p
I like to round things. Before banks offered the thing with the debit card that rounds all your purchases up to the closest 5$ mark (ex 83.45 is 85) and deposits the diffence in a savings account I would always transfer my money so that only one account didnt end in .00
I really like numbers if I am nervous I will go over the multiplication table or create random numbers and divide them or multiply them in my head.
I doodle words & sentences in the air with my finger....constantly....
I can't go poop without first looking behind the shower curtain. If there is a linen closet in the bathroom, I have to open the door and peek inside too. I'm not sure where that habit came from, but I have to make sure no one is hiding in the bathroom.
@Pinksapphire: OMG I do to! As far as I can figure it came from when my babysitter watched the orignal Psycho with me when I was like 5 or 6. I always have to make sure the door is locked and the room is clear!
lol I do that too, or I have to look in the closet before I go to bed if I'm staying in a hotel or someone else's house. I think it's a throwback habit to my childhood when I was scared of absolutely everything.
I separate my M&Ms (or whatever coloured candy that's similar) into colour groups and I have to eat them in even numbers. I save the blue ones for last and I count them. I have a hard time when I don't have an even number of a certain colour and have to match it up with another odd-ball candy colour that didn't have a partner either.
I think this stems from me always anthropomorphising things (imagining that inanimate objects have thoughts and feelings). So, I feel that their death (my eating them) will be easier on them if they at least have a partner to go into my mouth with. I try to crush them at the same time so that not one of them has to live without the other. I also make sure that I get every last (for example) Kraft Dinner noodle out of the box and into the pot because I hate when there's one left stuck in the box that doesn't get to "fulfill it's noodle destiny".
OH. MY. GOD.
I'm crazy, aren't I?
@Juliepants: Hahaah, I truly laughed out loud at your 'giving food feelings.' That's adorable, and hilarious.
@JessieK: Do you lock first, or after the sweep? I'd have to look first, wouldn't want to impede my own escape!
@NDBee: Hehe, well thanks for not having me committed. Oh, and I do the food separating thing, too! And kind of like yours, my FI mixes EVERYTHING together (and then pours sauces all over and mixes those together....). Heebies indeed!
I clean at like 3am....especially the bathrooms for some reason...and the kitchen lol. It starts with me just needing to tinkle or get a snack, and before you know it I'm scrubbing up a storm!!!
@Juliepants: lol I thought I was the only one who did both of those things too!!
I don't have a problem with my foods touching, but I do have two other weird food habits. 1) Whenever I order chicken nuggets, I always count to make sure I got the right amount. ie for lunch today I had a six count meal from chickfila and I counted to make sure there were six nuggets. 2) I fold my fast food trash. So when I finish a hamburger. instead of crumpling up the paper I fold it into 4ths or something to make it smaller.
I'm sure there's tons of other weird things I do but that's all I can think of for now.
@AudzinLuv: I do that ALL THE TIME and usually don't even notice I'm doing it. I have no idea where I picked that up or where the compulsion comes from.

just for fun, I felt like talking about weird habits!
because I hate packing lunches, I often bring a can of progresso chicken soup to work. but I hate the chicken pieces, so I pick all of them out out so it's just broth, veggies and noodles.
the "chicken" they put in it just grosses me out.
anyway, what weird habits do you have?
