I work with quite a few new moms, and some that have a lot of kids. What I have heard the most was cute, non practical outfits. They look so cute on the hanger, then your kid might wear them once, or never! So many moms have said that. One mom I know spend almost $100 on a christmas dress last year, so pretty and cute, but she had a brain fart on the size, and by the time christmas came around it was way too small. She couldnt return it, so she just re-gifted it, she was mad!

Truthfully just about everything we bought for little boy has been used. Now as to too many of is blankets… He has like 15-20 blankets. I try to rotate them out.  Most of them were gifts, there is one I did purchase I haven’t tried out yet because it is big enough for him and I to be under and it hasn’t been cold enough out yet to try it out.

Things I never used:

  • the bottle warmer
  • the Boppy (I know many people love the Boppy, but I hated it)
  • this thing

Haven’t had mine yet… but my cousin said the wipes’ warmer was a waste because you end up changing the baby whereever you are.  I.e. in the living room instead of the nursery where the warmer is.

I’ve stayed away from buying clothes because most of the showers I’ve been too people give lots of clothes especially if it’s a girl.  So I figure wait until the shower and then buy when I need to.  I’ve bought a few outfits but that’s it.

Not my own purchases, but we were given too many size 000 (newborn size) clothes. My kids were all 8-9 pounds at birth and grew out of size 000 almost immediately.

Agree on the clothes, within 7 weeks of birth my boy was in size 3 months clothes and a lot of the newborn and 0-3 months clothes were never used. Avoid anything with proper buttons, way too fiddly for a wriggling baby, poppers is the best.

I’m breastfeeding so have not used the bottle steriliser yet, i may give LO a bottle at some point so may use it in the future but for now it’s still unused. I also got a pump but so far have only used it once.

@funkymunky85:  good question!!  I’m a first timer too, so I had the same question…and no answers.  🙂

I have been asking those with kids about this too and everyone keeps saying the bottle warmer and wipe warmer. Needless to say I didn’t register for either.

I wouldn’t buy crib sets either. Babies cannot have blankets or crib bumpers. Just a sheet and a crib skirt.

Edit: Also I personally wouldn’t stock up on diapers like some people do. You have no clue what size you baby is going to be and how quickly he/she will grow. Stores always have diapers.

The Boppy- sucks for bfing, I bought a BrestFriend instead

his swing- dunno why he hates it, he loves his vibrating bouncy chair

Pee Pee Tee Pees (little cones of fabric you cover their penis with when they’re being changed so they don’t pee on you)

hats and socks

50 million blankets with the exception of aiden and anais ones

@JessyMess:  I’m going to second the swing.  I know some kids love them, but neither of mine did.  It was a waste of (my mom’s) money, lol.

@roxy821:  Wow!  I had no idea that crib bumpers were a no-no.  Good to know!

@roxy821:  I just read that the AAP said not to use the breathable crib bumpers either.  Crazy!  I don’t understand why they keep making them!
