Hmmm, that is a bit of a toughie because there are a lot more reasonable and prettier places in the Mid-Coast area. I haven't lived here very long but I do know in the Portland area there is the Portland Head Light. It's really pretty, on the water, etc. But it's a public place and there is no indoor space in case of rain. And yeah, there are a lot of resorts south of Portland but as you know they are $$$$. So, this might not be be very helpful, but if you consider moving an hour and a half north, I can name half a dozen gorgeous but reasonable venues:)
Please let me know of any you have. I'm open to other areas, although distance to a hotel is a factor since so many people will be coming from out of town.
Just had to chime in to rep my venue! *sorry pics are so huge :)*
We got married at the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, ME. It's a phenomenal renovated barn-turned music venue.. and definitely "off the beaten path" HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The owner Carol Noonan throws a mean party, and it's almost entirely all-inclusive so it makes planning super easy. You just pay per head. Definitely check out their website for more pictures!

also, about 75% of our guests travelled significant distances to be with us. It's just a hop, skip, and jump away from North Conway, NH where the lodging options are endless. Much of our family decided to stay in cabins/B&B's in the area though, and it worked perfectly.
I'm having my wedding at Havana South, a restaurant in downtown Portland. Basically you rent out the place for the night - we just have to meet a minimum between food and the bar. I don't know what your budget is, but we found this option to be much cheaper than other venues we looked at. Plus you don't have to rent anything - they are even letting me use their bud vases and candle holders. Its also huge - big enough for a dance floor even with 150 guests. They've never done a wedding before so I can let you know how it goes if you are interested (my wedding is in February).

My fiance and I are planning on getting married next summer in Maine. Since I am living far away, I am relying on the internet for most of information. We will be going up to visit my family in two weeks and are going to check out a few venues I've already found. The problem is that most of the places I've found on the internet are just not in our price range.
Does anyone have any ceremony/venue ideas? I'm willing to check out anything. I'm looking for somewhere either around the Portland area or the Lewiston/Auburn area.
Thanks!!
