How exciting!  I’m really curious what the name is now, but I understand wanting to keep it private!

Hi, my fiance’s name is super common too πŸ˜€ So he always insisted to keep my last name. We decided (mostly he did) to make a double last name: mine-his. It sounds veeery long but original. He keeps his obviously πŸ™‚

My FI has a similarly common last name (no lie, 2500 of them in the US — he has one of the top 20 most common first names and top 30 most common last names). There are 30 people in the US with my name (and they are mostly through marriage). If I change my name, there will be over 400 people with my name. I am just not willing to be so common. I think I will keep my name and tack his onto the end.

@Pollywog:  Laughing that is funny. Your post made me search my fiance’s name. I am faaaar ahead of yours (I mean my fiance).

So look: Statistically his last name is the 1st most popular last name. There are 9,303 people in the U.S. with the same first and last names as my fiance’s.

My name is very uncommon, so if I take his last name the statistics say: There are 14 or fewer people in the U.S. with the same combination. But with the combination of mine-his last names I am the only one! Yahooooo!Tongue Out

I am very happy for you. I know that some of your family members might not be too supportive because you are no longer using their name and they probably don’t understand why. But that isn’t their choice it is yours and I am glad you found the perfect one. I have a very uncommon name (in the states at least) so I know how that it might be hard to change to a very common name when you are used to being so different πŸ™‚ My soon to be last name is also very uncommon even more so than mine. When his family came to the U.S. years and years ago their name was changed slightly so it is really only his immediate family with that name. Even though there are quite a few of them (his dad is one of 12) it is still pretty unique. Besides celebrities change their names all the time for vanities sake and no one has anything to say about that lol.

Sounds great! My man would never go for that unfortunately. πŸ™‚

His last name is the 5th most popular in the US, and mine is the 912th! Statistics say there are 3 people in the US with my first name and his last name. I am the only person in the whole country with my current first and last name.

However I have always hated my first name, so I am planning to legally change it before we get married. Then I will be one of 418, but my new name will suit me much better!

@kkish3:  Congratulations!  My husband and I are also in the process of changing to a new name (which is also Spanish — based on your description it is not the same though, don’t worry!)  It’s nice to see other people doing the entirely-new-name thing.  I’m sure anyone giving you nasty comments will be completely used to it in a year.  Good luck!

This a little old but I thought I would share my FH has the second most popular first name in the us and the most popular last name in the us but thankfully mine once we are married is pretty rare.
