- Wedding: August 2008
We are having a friend officiate our secular wedding ceremony. We are working with him to create the ceremony and we are writing our own vows. We met last night and he asked us if he should wear his yamaka and and his tallit when he preforms the ceremony. Fiance and I are not Jewish, our ceremony is extremely secular (no mention of God) but we are not atheists, both raised in lapsed-Catholic homes, and we are getting married outside at our venue, not in a church or other religious building. Our friend is Jewish (obviously or he wouldn’t be asking us about this). He doesn’t usually wear either outside of temple or holidays. I was caught off gaurd by the question, I don’t want to offend him but I don’t know if wearing a yamaka and tallit would be appropriate? Any thoughts from the hive would be appreciated about the question and about how to approach it.
