Call your town clerk (at Town Hall or City Hall). They usually can provide a list of officiants. I did this in an email blitz 1.5 weeks before my wedding and over 30 responded with availability and quotes.
You can also get a family member or friend to officiate your wedding. :) I hear it's pretty easy in CA to get the paperwork done.
You can even be ordained online in California I'll ask for the website so pretty much anyone can do it!
We've thought about having a friend officiate, but none of our friends would be really up for the job. I'm looking for recommendations on any great officiants anyone has seen in the LA area. Thanks!
Dr. Robert Ringler is a really fantastic non-denominational officiant in LA. We were going to use him until we decided to have a religious ceremony. His ceremonies are simply beautiful and he is a sweetheart. He's a little pricey (about $900!). Here is his info:

Here Comes the Guide also has listings for other officiants in the area, so you might want to check those as well. Good luck!
Wow - that's too bad. Isn't there some kind of cacellation clause in your contract with him? I know in every contract I've signed so far it's stated that if the person(s) providing service can not make it they will replace themself for me.
I wish I could give you some places to look, but I'm in the land of snow and road construction here in MN. Good luck! I'm sure it will all work itself out just fine.
We hired him about a month ago (6 months before our wedding) and when I asked about a contract, he said he'd be sending us something, but it wouldn't need to be signed. Then he sent an email yesterday, saying he couldn't do it. =/
Bride10,
It is probably best it didn't work out anyway. Contract that doesn't need to be signed? Sounds sketchy. If anything were to happen closer to the wedding and he cancelled then or even the night before, there may not be any recourse!

Our officiant received word that he can't do our ceremony and cancelled on us. Does anyone know of any good non denominational officiants/judge to officiate over our ceremony in the Los Angeles area?
