Hi Bees, I’m not sure if this is the best board fit for this question. Mods, please move it if it should be somewhere else.
FI and I are non-religious. We are looking for an officiant and I’m curious what an average cost is. I understand it is partly regional, but if you were married by someone besides your regular pastor or a friend, what did you pay for their services?

$100, unlimited phone calls. Custom ceremony.
Edit: I’m in Central California

We are paying $400.. I thought that was insane, but we really liked him and his ideas. This is for a wedding in Los Angeles, California.

We are paying $550 – we met with him for over an hour and a half and he put together a fully customized ceremony. It will be another $250 for a reherseal.

Free, we had a friend register online and she did it for free. We did give her and her partner a nice gift card for dinner to thank her, she did an amzing job.

We had a JP do ours. The cost was $100, which she donated to charity. Love that!

Ours is $350, which includes rehearsal and a personalized ceremony. She is local so there’s no charge for travel which is a plus. Some others we talked to charge $50-$100 just for travel (for both the ceremony and rehearsal).

$250 for custom ceremony with rehersal and his wife as a day of coordinator, as well as mic and music if needed. Anything above X amount of pieces of the ceremony, is $25 extra.

- Wedding: January 2013 - Harbourfront Grand Hall
$525 unlimited calls/emails. They would have written our ceremony but I did it myself (and did NOT get a discount, LOL) They’re running the rehearsal, and this cost includes travel as well.

$275. Custom ceremony :). Metro Atlanta.

Thanks so much! Seems to be a range of prices. The guy that emailed me back so far said $300 for the ceremony, and another $125 for the rehearsal. But he seems willing to work with us to make sure we get exactly what we want, so I guess it’s worth it? I thought that was pretty high, but I guess it’s not too bad comparatively. I’m in Birmingham, AL, so we’re the biggest metro area in the state.

Mine was $500. I know it was more expensive, but we liked her the best out of three officiants we met. We had one in-person meeting and then one phone meeting closer to the wedding. She did not come to the rehearsal, but she was familiar with the venue and the coordinator. I got married north Los Angeles.
