elskan:   It may depend somewhat on where you live.  In mid atlantic area of US the officiant fee seems to average around $500.

I’m currently on the hunt for an officiant in NJ so I can give you the exact quotes I’ve received. 350$ and up for a local ceremony close to officiants home. Anything personalized Adds $$$. Travel fees are often tacked on. The most recent quote I received was 190$ For a basic simple ceremony.

elskan:  Our officiant is costing us $375 which includes the rehearsal dinner. My father is planning on giving him $450 to include gratuity.

Most I’ve found in the St. Louis area go for 400-700, with the average being about $500. After some searching, we found one for about $250 who is very reputable so we are very happy!

I think we finally found an officiant but the prices in NC seem to be in the $400-$500 range if you want a ceremony and a rehearsal the day before. But if you just want the bare bones minimum the price seems to be closer to $300.

Ours is $175, but she is local. I know her prices for travel (which include a hotel stay) can be about $300.

SF and $800 which also includes travel about an hour.

We interviewed about 6 different officiants and chose her (although the most expensive), as she was the best fit for us personality wise and we really liked her style.

Ours was $200, but he’s a court commissioner who does secular weddings on the side because he enjoys it. It’s not a primary source of income, and there’s no church affiliation (which usually raises the price)

Our officiant is charging us 700 but she will create a very personalized ceremony for us using a questionaire she has sent to the both of us. We also got along very well with her so to us she is worth every penny

Ours (also a United Methodist) is charging us $100 plus mileage. But we are part of a rural community so $500 seems exorbitant to us.

Our officient is charging $425, we are having the ceremony in Peterbrough Ontario, she has written a personalized ceremony for us and we’ve had a number of skype meetings with her to make sure we are comfortable with everything.

We are also having a very secular ceremony.

We didn’t pay anything for our officiant because she is a very close friend. Instead, I made a handmade card as thanks to give her at the reception and we’re having them over for dinner tonight.

It is so weird you asked this, because I was going to start a thread on the same thing! I need research to show someone at church who doesn’t believe me how much people pay for an officiant! Ours will not charge a set fee.  One, because he is the pastor of my church where I am a member, and two because it is against the rules.  A donation is good though.

On the flip side, however, if you are not a member of the church he will marry a couple, but it will cost $500.  He doesn’t keep that money, though, it goes right back into the church.  If he has to travel a distance, the fee goes up.
