- Wedding: July 2010
Alright, hive, I need to do a bit of venting. You’ve been warned. 😉
We sent our readings and music choices to the pastor who is marrying us for approval two weeks ago. He’s normally great about getting back to us, but we hadn’t heard from him, and I was waiting for his response so I could finalize our wedding program and get it off to the printers. After a week of no response, we called and left a message, and we just heard back today. The church’s receptionist called to let us know that the pastor has been on vacation, and won’t be back until 10 days before the wedding.
Essentially, the man took the month before our wedding off without letting us know. If we’d known he was leaving for a long vacation in July and wouldn’t be back until late August, we would have sent him the readings and music choices way sooner.
I have readers waiting for confirmation about what they’ll be reading. I have questions about church decor (how long are the pews, how can I secure garland to them?). We wanted to change up the tone of the wine chest ceremony we’re doing during the ceremony, but will need his approval for that. I wanted to confirm what time we’ll be able to come decorate the church so I can pass that info along to the wedding party. I’m sure other questions will come up, too.
It kills me that we won’t be able to finalize any of these things until 10 days before the wedding at the earliest – he’ll need to go over the readings and music and that could take time – and that I could have finished up the programs (sans reading titles) two weeks ago and had them printed and in my hands by now.
I’m just upset that no one at the church thought to let us know that this would be going on – I hate leaving things til the last minute like this!
Were any of you in a similar situation with your officiant? How did you cope?
