So we’re getting married outside, we don’t have a church that we’re members of.
We need someone to perform the ceremony. We have discussed asking my uncle but thinking about it, he lives about 2 hours away and asking him to make multiple trips to do the rehearsal etc doesn’t seem fair.
Where on earth do we start looking for an officiant? How did you find yours? was it hard?!
freaking out a little bit,

I found mine on Craigslist! Lol. I know it sounds weird but I didn’t know what else to do since we’re not just down the street from where we’re getting married.

We googled officiants in our area – a lot of officiants have websites. Or do you live in an area that has JPs who can do weddings?

Google a local justice of the peace? Ask one of your friends to do it? (many states offer one day officiant license).

@jny1179: We don’t have that in Ontario, which is really unfortunate!
I found some really promising ones on Kijiji (: Maybe try there?
ETA: Our city hall has a PDF online with contact information for all the people in our area that can legally marry people. Maybe try finding something like that for the Mississauga area?

My mom found ours in the yellow pages, after our first officiant (recommended by a family friend) stopoed returning our phone calls.
Our yellow pages officiant was awesome AND reliable.

We found ours under the “vendor” section. I originally found her on “wedding wire” but she is also on the Bee.
ETA: You can aslo ask your venue for recommendations.

Are you looking for a justice of the peace or a minister/religious type officiant?
Have you heard of the site www.eventective.com? You could try there, you put out your date and the location/city and they contact you. Through the website, but you get an email as well. I put out the Brampton/Mississauga area before when i was planning a big wedding and looking for a venue only and I got a half dozen hits for officiants that contacted me.

I am also looking for one too!

@MsGinkgo: We didn’t have a church either and actually I think for a small fee online, you can choose someone that you know to get certified for like 24 hrs to be an officiant. We are having my brother do ours.

To @MsGinkgo: When we were looking for a Wedding Officiant for our US Elopement we used GOOGLE… try it you’ll probably get some hits:
– Getting Married in Mississauga –
– Wedding Officiant Mississauga –
Another great source for Canadian Brides (especially those in the Toronto area) is WeddingBells Magazine = http://www.weddingbells.ca
Hope this helps,
PS… I prefered to work with / research Officiants that actually had Websites. And if you GOOGLE the Officiant’s name you should also be able to find Reviews… you want preferably Independent Reviews (like on WBee, Yelp etc.) vs Testimonials from the Officiant… but you want something !!

EDIT TO ADD – I just went to the Gov.On Website http://www.ontario.ca/government/get-married-ontario and found they maintain a list of Officiants by Municipality… one list for Religious Officants… and then a link that gives out the City Hall Info for JOP, Judges & Municipal Clerks.
