How minor are the alterations? Have you already sorted out somewhere to get your dress altered? I think that if it's only cleaning and getting a bustle sewn in then you'll be fine but without knowing exactly what you need done I'm not sure. I'm sure you can ask a seamstress to do a rush job for you if you needed it but (again, depending on what needs doing) I think a week should be fine if you get there before. Anything less and I'd start being a bit worried.
I'm scared to have her send it here though too! The dress fits perfectly. I just need the halter shortened a TINY bit and the bustle put in...then it needs to be cleaned and whatever to be ready for the big day.
Seriously, it's fine. Do it when you get there. That's NOTHING in the sewing world and should take a good seamstress at most an hour to do - and the bustle will need to be done with you in it anyways! Give yourself at least 3 days for cleaning it (just in case) and maybe an extra 2 days for alterations. You'll look great!
I would go ahead and contact potential tailors that you would use and ask them how long it would take them...make them aware of the situation and make certain those alterations are possible. It sounds like they are pretty simple, so it might not be a problem, but I think it is best to be absolutely certain, especially when it is your wedding dress!
I'm with buttons....better safe than sorry. Take all the necessary precautions. You don't wanna be caught without someone to do your alterations. Call around hun.
Definitely call around, make your appointment well ahead of time, and make sure they can get you in for your final fitting at least 2 or 3 days before the wedding, so that if there are any problems you can hash them out then!
I will probably have to have my mom send it down here then because I won't be able to go home earlier than 3 or 4 days before the wedding. No way I can take that kind of time off work, well...not without feeling it. I suppose once the tax return comes in I will be ok. but still...Probably safer to have the dress here and get the alterations done in advance then have it cleaned when we get to MN.

Hey bees!! I need your help...just talked to my mom last night and we decided it was stupid for me to go home this month if she can run around and get everything taken care of in MN while I save $$ and such in TX. (this helps me a lot!!)
Anyway, my dress is in MN...I won't be there until a few days before the wedding. The dress fits like a glove. Just needs a bustle and MINOR alterations, and cleaned before the big day. If I go home only a few days before, will that leave enough time?! I am freaking out now. Should I have her send my dress here? Oh good Lord. :( Am I freaking out about nothing?
