I knew that telling my Mom about officially asking friends to be in my Bridal Party was going to lead to some kind of conversation. That’s why I held off a while, but then I accidentally slipped and told my Aunt (Dad’s Sister in Law) that I had asked my girls, so I knew it was time to tell her. I started out the conversation the other night after coming home from a night out with a friend, who is one of the BMs.
Me: “Well, it’s official! I have a Bridal Party!”
Mom: “Oh? Who are they?”
Me: “L is MOH, E is a BM, and my cousin K is also a BM”
Mom: “Oh that’s Nice, do you have a groom?”
*waves ring in her face* Me: “Of course!”
Mom: “Does he know that?”
(Mom is upset with FI because we’ve been engaged for 5 months and no date has been set yet)
I got fed up, left the room and went to bed. The next morning as I was getting ready for work my Mom brought up the Bridal party again:
Mom: “So why didn’t you ask J to be a BM?”
Me: “I did, she couldn’t do it”
Mom: “And B?” (a friend who lives out of state, and I don’t really get along as well with as we did when we were kids)
Me: “I would feel bad making her shell out that much money in travel expenses and the dress, etc”
(my nice way of skirting around the fact that I didn’t want to ask her)
Mom: “But you have K as a BM and she’s only a state further”
Me: “She’s my cousin, that’s different!”
SIGH! Mom it’s my wedding! it’s going to be a small wedding, I don’t need 50 BMs! Argh! Ok Rant Over.
Anyone else have a Mom like this?
