So, I don't know how to tell this story without being crude so... excuse the "terms".

FI and I have lived with roommates for the better part of our relationship (I was in school, he was apprenticing, saving money, etc.), so we've been... watching the volume on our "video games" for quite some time. Currently we are living with two male roommates.

Well, today when I got home from work, I noted that both roommates were gone - one to a town three hours away, another to work (and not expected back for an hour and a half).

FI was on his way home, so I donned... um, appropriate video game playing wear and surprised him at the door. We then played video games. On full volume.

Just as we finished... leveling up (?) ... we heard our roommate's door slam shut.

    SHIT.

    Anyone? Anyone?

    HILARIOUS!

I've been on the receiving end of this. As long as you don't make it a habit, its just something to giggle over.

    I used to hear spanking.

AAAHHH this happened to me only once. Luckily I got it wrong and she had walked in afterwards! Phew!

So sorry you had to go through that though. Maybe he just came in?

Oh the joys of living alone!  Uncomfortable, yeah, but not as bad as if it had been a family member or someone walking in on you.  Oh the college roommate stories or even my first apartment- every Sunday morning from the people next door.  It sounds like this was an exception rather than a rule, and I'd just go on and probably be super quiet for the next few days!

and yes - it's awkward, but just play it cool and laugh it off, and hopefully they won't be too phased. if they're good people you should be able to move on :P

OMG, I just fell over laughing!  LOVE the terminology!

When FI and I started dating, we were long distance and he was living at home with his parents.  I would come and visit and we would try to be quiet and wait until they were asleep (it was still hella awkward....)  Anyway, one time after we'd finished "leveling up" I walked out of the bedroom to go to the bathroom and his mom was walking around downstairs (they had a loft).  My mortification was tripled by the fact that I was NAKED because I thought for sure they were way asleep (it was 3am).  Fortunately, his mom has really, really bad eyesight and she didn't have her contacts in so she didn't see anything but the movement.  We did get some funny looks the next morning at breakfast though.

I wouldn't worry too much about it too much - they probably wish that they got some video game time LOL!

I'm with Future Mrs. Martin - Rather than being embarrassed that FI's roommate heard you, revel in the fact that you're winning the (se)XBox wars. Hopefully he'll get some game time of his own soon!

At my fiance's old apartment, the wall between him and his neighbors was made of crepe paper. I could do a spot on impression of his female neighbor, and she could do the same with me. We figured this out at a party - talk about a weird conversation!

Hahaha! Like someone else here said, guys tend to be more laid back about stuff like that.

They probably just raised their eyebrows and thought "Wow, good job dude!".

Reminds me of one time when someone showed up during a vocal main event... our bedroom door was closed (thank GOD), but we heard someone walking through the living room immediately afterwards... so we gave each other matching "oh CRAP" looks, and I loudly piped up with "Ok, now this time YOU be the goat, and I'LL be the donkey!". Vulgar and horrible and disgusting, I know- but it was the weirdest thing I could come up with... the friend walking through the living room nearly had heart failure from laughing so hard.

Still embarassing for you though- I wouldn't worry too much about it. :P

OMG I would die but I have to say, thank you for the laugh, that was the best way to describe the activity in a public forum I've ever read!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it.  It's not like you guys go all out on a rampage all the time.  Who knows, his friends might give your man a high-five for the advanced play! haha

@Kaybeewills - That is one of the funniest things I've ever heard! Props to you :)

@Future Mrs. Martin - OMG, yes. I know that I've been heard in the past - I once had construction workers outside the window actually applaud. But it's different when it's someone you encounter in day-to-day life! Our current upstairs neighbors are friends of ours, and let's just say that they might want to fix the squeaky board in their floor. We've never mentioned it to them, but good lord, it's amusing!

@kaybeewills Hahaha I seriously laughed. That is GENIUS. Perhaps an idea for next time.

I'm sure it'll blow over. It's just awkward as it had to happen with the roommate that

    a) has NEVER dated. He's 28 yrs old, ladies.

    b) is a virgin himself.

So, that's sweet. I was his first taste of what that sounds like in real life. Aaaaaawesome :D

5 months until we get our own place! :D

The EXACT same thing happened to me!  My roommate was at work, not supposed to be back for hours, she had even texted me to let me know!   I thought we were in the clear...but the door slamming right after I was "leveling up" was a pretty clear indication that she was home.  Oops!  Things were pretty awkward for a few days, and I could tell she was a little frustrated at me, but what could I do at that point?  We just tried to be extra extra quiet after that...

TOO FUNNY! when my bf and I lived in the dorms we got walked in on by his suitemates! They just barged in through the bathroom! no knocking! I'm pretty sure the whole floor knew, but they never mentioned it (Thank GOD!)

hahahahaha nice!! We have been lucky enough to not have any doors slam at our apartment! But I'm sure our roommate/cousin has heard us at some point...and our neighbors...and anyone standing out side when we forget to clothes the window.

Hahaha that's great! This reminds me of the time when I slept over at FI's family's house, and his younger brother who was 18 at the time, did not know I was there, well everyone else was at work, including my FI and when I got up to go to the bathroom, and walked out in the hall I heard "video games" coming from the computer in the computer room. I got totally red, and turned right back around and shut the door. When everyone got home FI's little brother asked their parents if they could let him know when I was there. It was weird at the time, but now it makes me chuckle.

My old roommate and I used to joke that it was "Law and Order" time because somehow that show was ALWAYS on at the right time and either one of us (whoever was...not watching the show, haha) watched the show at high volumes! HA! It's a really funny joke these days (as long as parents aren't around!!!) ;)

Honestly, being a guy and it not being on a regular basis it probably doesn't matter. He was most likely trying to be polite about letting you guys know he came home by shutting the door loudly in case you were planning on continuing your "gaming". I know that when FI's friend came over to "level up" one of FI's visiting friends they would give each other high-fives based on how many times they managed to "level up" us gals. One time I convinced FI to do it like 20 times just to make it seem like he was a master lol

This used to happen to us in college all the time! There are a couple ex-roommates I still have a hard time looking in the eye, but only because I'm overly sensitive and embarassed, I'm sure they've forgotten all about it (RIGHT? RIGHT? PLEASE GOD)!

haha it happens. sure its a little embarrassing but its not like they don't know you do it. you were obviously trying to be respectful and someone got home early-- they can't be upset about that. the only thing i'd be embarrassed about is if they heard something out-of-the-ordinary. i mean--- you didn't call him Luigi or anything did you? (trying to stick with the video game scenario and failing miserably... heh)
