My mom has been helping me organize and today she brought over this bookcase that is dark espresso wood and it's a ladder style bookcase - I guess it could be considered a wall shelf ...

Sooo... aside from a few books, what would be really cool on it?

I like what they did in that picture. That's probably where I'd go with it.

Framed photos. Little organizer boxes. Glassware.

Candles?  Pictures in frames?  Knickknacks that you already have?  Glassware?

FI and I have 5 small and 1 large, and they are all full, LOL!  One's in the kitchen and has cookbooks and some serving pieces on it.  One is in the dining room and is more of a console table, with china on it.  The two small ones on either side of the fireplace in our living room (above cabinets) have pictures in frames, oversized books and knickknacks.  The one huge one in the living room is full of books, floor to ceiling.  And we have a small one that FI uses as a nighstand in our room, which has things we're currently reading on it.  Yep, we're nerds, especially because we have half a dozen more boxes of books in our garage.  :-)

Hmm you could put a plant or two, a vase, a couple picture frames of you and your hubby, a candle, and any other decorative little objects you may have on them. Maybe even an interesting collection of something you have.

A big vintagey clock, candles, photos, a piece of art or one of those poseable figurine people thingers...in my case, mostly just books! I have a gazillion, haha.

I love those bookcases! I have so many books there wouldn't be that much room for other stuff, but I like the set up in the pic. If you put a candle on a shelf, don't ever burn it there. I did that once and accidenlty left it for a while and when I came back, the candle was starting to burn the bottom of the shelf above! Eeek!

Apothocary jars filled with pinecones. I don't know why, but I'm totally loving this look right now! Or filled with Christmas candy! Or one of those little train cases filled with a flower arrangement. My parents have one sitting on their coffee table and its so cool looing cause it has feathers too.

I love when people display things that relate to their hobbies or interests -- old cameras if you're into photography, a bowl with yarn and knitting needles for crafty people, old records for music lovers, etc.  You walk into someone's house and already know the kind of people who live there! :)

Our bookshelf is so packed with books (I was an English major in college) that there is no room for anything else! In fact, we may have to get an additional bookshelf soon because we both have a book-buying obsession (thanks half-priced books!) and we have run out of room on the shelf.

I have sooo many books but we placed this in a really open and visible spot so I don't want it to become my "clutter spot" of all my mish mash of books! I somehow have to put another bookcase in a place nobody can see so that I can rotate books on the bookcase people can actually see =)

Good idea about traincase with flowers ... pretty!

So I guess what I would have on my bookcase that tells you all about me would be ... (actually this would make a fun poll to get to know each other =))))

Fancy chocolates ... like truffles and candies too

Pictures of me with my mom, father and sister + H and his family ..

Cook books + other literature ... I lovvve books - especially cook books

Maybe a calender of puppies and some pictures of my photography of the ocean and beach - I love the beach =)

Ok ... that's all I can think of for now

I have those shelves too!! They're sooo pretty :)

I copied the Pottery Barn display lol. It looks similar to the photo above. I have nothing useful on it-- it just looks good. I have books w/o the sleeves, picture frames, candles...

Just remember to group things in odd numbers. 1, 3, 5, 7 :) You can't go wrong!
