So I get a call today saying the dress I ordered... 2 months ago is not made in white anymore! WTF seriously it took them 2 months to find this out! I am so pissed. I wanted a white dress not Ivory! I don't know what to do. Here is my Ex-Dress...I really don't want to go dress shopping again... :(
That's awful, I'm sorry! Can you find it used in white? Or would you rather just find a new dress?
Wow, that's a gorgeous dress. Is ivory the only other color or do they have other shades available?
Hi,
I have noticed that a lot of dresses seem to have a "twin" dress made from another designer-or very similar-and the bees are great with helping identify a dress from a photo. Perhaps there is another made like this from another designer that you can get in white??? Help bees!!!
That is a gorgeous dress. I 2nd lilyfaith's idea of getting it used. Can you ask for a swatch of the Ivory? Sometimes "Ivory" isn't pure white but still a really white shade (not the yellow that we associate ivory with). Can they get you a sample of the material?
That really sucks!! Have you seen the ivory color...is it way dark or is it more like diamond white? my dress is ivory, but it's not a really deep ivory color.
I tried on the dress in Ivory- It's a little more yellowish but if you noticed on their website it says NATURAL/IVORY- but the dress looks white?!?! or is it me? I am so disappointed.
The other color it comes in is Coffee which isn't for me. I am talking to the company to see what's up with that. I'll prob go with the Ivory since I can't get my deposit back and all the other dresses I liked they didn't carry and wanted to charge me 180 for each sample they had to borrow for me to try on.
I found a picture of someone in it in Ivory-

I'm so sorry. That's crazy that it took them so long to figure it out!
How can they not make a wedding gown in white!? That's ridic. I think the ivory looks nice too though, in the picture above.
I know it's not what you wanted, but I think the ivory is beautiful and would probably flatter most if not all skin tones! Definitely ask for a swatch so you can see the exact shade in person before you decide to ditch the dress.
That's not right that you can't get your deposit back...it's not your fault, it's theirs! I think the ivory is beautiful, though, and will probably look wonderful with your coloring. This may be one of those things that end up turning out right in the end!! I'm crossing my fingers!
I have a hard time telling ivory apart from white except when it's next to white. Ivory is more flattering to pale complexions anyway.
Can you try calling the designer and expressing your extreme displeasure and frustration?
Also, if it's someone else's mistake, you are absolutely entitled to your deposit back. It really doesn't matter what they say.
I second the idea to try to see if the ivory is ok to you. Maybe you could call around and see if anyone has a sample from that designer in ivory that you could go try on. Usually you would never even guess that the dress was considered "ivory" unless someone told you, it's really just a more universally flattering shade of white.
I wouldn't go by photos, a lot of ivory dresses look white in pics. If you tried it on in ivory and didn't like it, I wouldn't expect your dress to be any different. I'd suggest going back to try on the sample and decide if the ivory is one you can live with.
Also, I don't see why you can't get your deposit back if you choose to take your money and go somewhere else. You didn't change your mind, they promised you something they can't deliver!
I feel they should give you the deposit back if they can nto fill the order for the item you put a deposit down for. You put a deposit down for a WHITE dress
I sure there so way you could get your deposit back. Go to the owner if you need to.
Why not search for the same dress but another shop? Maybe online since you already tried it on and know the exact size you are...
I think I will have to make a trip back to the dress shop to try it on. My mom said the Ivory wasn't too off from the white. I emailed the company to see what's up with them stopping the white. It's going to be romantic lighting in the mansion I am getting married in so maybe the Ivory could work. It just sucks. I wish they could have told me sooner than 2 months down the road. My mom was like make sure you bitch to them, get a free vail out of the deal then lol.
@lil most dresses are ivory... Here's me in my ivory for you...
Here is mine! It's Mikaella 1403 and the color is called Bone. However, it looks like ivory to me!

@crebre80 - Your dress looks on the whiter side to me, it's so pretty! You look great!
@Linspurdu- When I think of Ivory that's about the color that I think of lol, That's an awesome dress! I love the detail on the side!
Here's my ivory dress--I actually looked awful in white and had to go with ivory! (Beautiful dress, btw!) Oh, and if you use any white roses, they'll probably match better with ivory--roses aren't usually a true white.

crebe and alicia you guys look amazing in your dresses.
Have you tried on the ivory at all to see how it looks?
I was told at multiple bridal shops when they saw my blond hair that I should go with ivory because I'll look too washed out. They all ended up saying go with white after I tried them on because my skin tone is a bit darker than most blonds but the ivory didn't look bad. But it really depends on what you want, if you don't want it you should fight for your deposit back, you're paying a lot for that dress and you shouldn't be paying a lot for something you didn't order.
your dress is gorgeous! who makes it? i swear i've seen it by another designer...amsale, maybe? my dress is in ivory, but doesn't look that much off from white
i'm so sorry i know how disappointed you must be...
i swear bridal shops do sketchy things we're all unaware of...they just hope they dont get caught...
I'd see if you could view the dress in ivory to see how dark it is! My gown is ivory, but I don't think you'd say that it is anywhere close to a "champagne" color...it is closer to white.
The dress is beautiful though!
I think ivory dresses are very pretty. Actually silk and most materials naturally come in an ivory color. The silk is bleached to make white dresses. I dont want to be rude, but most white dresses look cheaper because of the bleach. Ivory has a much softer, natural look to it. I definitly prefer the look of ivory dresses.
First off - beautiful dress!! from the ivory picture of it, it really doesn't look TOO ivory - I would seriously consisder staying with it :)
BTW - its seriously crappy that your bridal store wont refund your deposit when you gave them the deposit for a DIFFERENT dress then you are getting!
@lil: thanks! I really liked it.
@troubled: thanks girlie!
Again, I'd caution against comparing your dress with pictures or with anyone else's dress. The tone of what they call ivory differs for each designer and sometimes for each dress depending on fabric. I tried two Eve of Milady's in ivory, one looked pretty white to me where as the other one was unmistakably yellowish. For my Lazaro dress, what they call white is really diamond white and the ivory sample I tried on was so creamy it was almost pinkish. In Kenneth Pool, the ivory made my complexion look a sickly yellow. You really won't know how ivory your ivory is until you go back and look at the actual sample. Maybe take some white accessories you purchased with you and compare them side by side also.
For reference, both of our dresses were ivory:

I'd concur with others that it varies from one designer to another. However, the only way I knew our dresses were ivory is that the salesperson said they were,
Thanks everyone- it is such a beautiful dress in person! The dress is made by Justin Alexander 8483. My mom really liked the sample that was in Ivory that I tried on- she thought I ordered that one to begin with. I wish that I took pictures in the Ivory dress when I went the first time! Everyone has a different colored "Ivory" so it's hard to really get a good feel.
@troubled- it's funny you say that because I never really thought about looking washed out with a white or ivory. My skin is on the fair side but I've been tanning lately so i wonder if that will make a difference.
I will have to make the drive up to the bridal shop to try it on again, I liked it when I tried it on, and it was in the Ivory so. I've just had this picture in my head for a white dress.
aw its absolutely gorgeous! i'd definately look into ivory and see how you like it, its too beautfiul to pass up!
Justin's ivory is a lovely shade. In regards to what you said about not being able to get your money back, look at your receipt. If it says white on the receipt, then you are due your money back if you want it because they are not delivering the dress that you ordered. If they cannot deliver the designer, model, and color on your order form you can cancel your order with no penalty to you as a buyer. It might be a hassle and you might have to go through your credit card company if the bridal shop won't work with you. The salon doesn't want to lose your money so they'll say that they can't give you your deposit back, but they are in violation of a contract that somebody from their store signed.
It sucks that it was such an inconvenience and has caused you so much stress and such but I think you have the wrong image of ivory. I find that unless you hold an ivory dress up to a white dress there really isn't much difference. Ivory is supposed to compiment fair complexion's better. My dress is ivory and I didn't even consider a white dress for me.
For anyone who thinks ivory is not much different from white, here are three dresses I tried on. First one could pass for white. The other two, not so much.
If you want white, you want white (me too, I can't wear ivory, beigie, tan, etc...without looking that color myself).
Try Ebay! There are a whole bunch of sellers on there who own bridal shops and are trying to get rid of inventory. The dresses are brand new! Also, type the dress into google, see if you can find it at a discount bridal store.
I totally feel for you and that is very annoying that it took them 2 months to figure it out. If it makes you feel any better, I had my heart set on a white dress, but I guess since it's not that popular (among designers at least, not brides who obviously usually prefer white) my dress was only available in ivory. I made a HUGE sacrifice picking an ivory dress, but I"m happy with my decision. It looks great and everything else about it is perfect. To be honest, ivory isn't a whole lot different than white. It's when you start getting into champagne's/oyster's is when you can tell.
I just made sure not to have any white anywhere in the wedding, even the tablecloths are ivory. Flowergirl dress = ivory.
If you tried on an ivory dress, just remember that it's probably dirtier than a new fresh ivory dress will be. There was an episode of Say Yes To The Dress where the bride and her father were really upset that the dress they got was too white because they wanted it to look like the sample. The designer said the sample had been carried around on trunk shows and now looked different than a fresh dress. I don't know how they got the new dress to look more like an old dress but they did something to it.
