Well, if it helps, none of the weddings I've ever been to (and I'm in the double digits) has ever used that song for the father-daughter dance. :)
I was really hoping for Tim McGraw's "My Little Girl" but ah well. lol If it makes my dad happy, it makes me happy :)
It'll be great since it means so much to him! I also have not seen anyone dance with their dad to that song.
Two things.
1. The one cliche I DID NOT WANT and even spent time telling people "the only thing I know is I won't have the cha cha slide" and my MIL has requested it and we will oblige-- ugh.
2. A bunch of our groomsmen work at a hotel and serve/bartend at weddings and I asked them this weekend what the most cliche songs were, and that one didn't even make their top ten-- if that makes you feel better. They said "I loved her first" is a guarantee at all weddings. (I told them my f-d dance is to the beatles)
I hope that helps make you feel better, I know the feeling!
I agree with Gemstone - I've never even heard it played at any weddings I've been at (much less for the father-daughter dance).
Also, there are so many things that I'm finding that I want that I thought would be unique and they totally aren't - so you should do what you and your dad want :)
haha, i can totally see my dad picking this same song, and i'll inwardly groan but will of course go along with it, because i love him and how often does he get his say on anything wedding related? hmmm maybe i should start planting ideas in his head now for songs more to my liking?
That's a classic (though I prefer the Bennett version!) and I was supposed to dance with my dad to it. I don't think it's so common! And if your dad wants it, let him have it :)
So true ladies!
@pb and j:I tried, I sent him links to a bunch of songs he liked, but he came out of left field with this one! heh heh.
I'm still not budging on "Celebrate good times, COME ON!" lol
Argh, reading this is stressing me out! My FI and I still have to pick our F/D dance and M/S dance songs... and send them to the DJ by TOMORROW! YIKES! I want something fun, not too sappy, but not too cliche either... @sironel, what were the other 9???
@Swiss Miss to Bee: LOL its ok to be cliche sometimes!! ESpecially if its for your dad :-)
Well I guess I'm glad it was the Rod Stewart one, that's the most modern. I can't enjoy jazzy singers b/c I used to have this roomate (a guy) that would get drunk and blast Frank Sinatra and the like at 4am...ruined that kind of music for me! :o/
EDIT-PS: And he likes it b/c its in the Father of the Bride movie, which I love so that's kinda cute :)
ha ha! i wouldn't worry too much about that. father/daughter dances are meant to be cheesy (in a good way!) and i don't think anyone is ever critical about song selection for them. my parents also requested some totally cheesetastic elevator music that would normally go on anyone's do-not-play list, but at the end of the day, it was also their wedding too!
@ribbons:So Ribbs what did you pick? I couldn't tell from your last post if you were going to go into all those details, if so I'll sit back with anticipation :)

First of all NO OFFENSE to anyone who used this song, but my dad just told me the song he wants to use for our dance, "Just the way you look tonight!" the ONE song I was hoping not to use! lol. I was like, "EVERYone uses that song!" I told him "well if that's the song you feel will be the best representation of how you are feeling that day..." and he said he didn't have anything that he liked more than that...Ok Dad, you win! lol....And I know, I know I AM grateful my dad is here and we have a good relationship and he's playing such a big part...I am just in a bit of a shock that we are using this song! haha
ps, the Rod Stewart version no less! lol I use to hate him when I was little :oP
