I am doing an adults-only reception, so I am going to call each person I know that has family and explain that the children can’t come and why. In my case, it’s because the venue is TINY and with only 100 seats we wanted to make room for more friends and family to come. I think honesty is the best policy, just call (or have him call) and explain your situation to her.

I reccommend that you NOT bend the rules, that breeds resentment (why did you let XYZ have kids and not me). In my case, the rules are that the only children who can come are the wedding party children. Or, others say only out-of-town kids. Whatever the rule is, stick to it…

The note does sound like she was trying to butter you up, but I would definately stick to the plan and have FI address it, or his parents. If you make an exception for one it will either snowball, or other people will get upset.
