My computer went into catastrophic meltdown last night and I have lost everything! But most importantly, I have lost all my wedding invitations! I had just finalized the design and layout for the invite, reception card, and RSVP, and now they are melted and gone!

The upsides? I now have the illustrator skills to recreate them (yay I printed a test copy on printer paper last night!) AND I still have time.

Poor rabbit! I'm so glad you had test copy printed.

Things like this are what I have nightmares about - to the point that I had my guy buy me an external hard drive a bit ago so I can double (and sometimes triple) save things... And I'm still at the "collecting inspiration" level!

Well, I feel stupid about the meltdown because we already own a 1T external drive to back things up...but I have been so busy creating different versions and sizes of possible invites (it took six trys to get the final version!) that it never even crossed my mind to backup! Ouch! This is a lesson for all DIY brides out there: backup, backup, backup!! If this had happened to me in the spring when I was getting ready to send out invitations I would be a much bigger, sobby mess!

Just be glad it happened now and not 6 months from now! Can you set your backup software to run automatically? For anything super important, I would back up to the external hard drive and make a CD/DVD backup.

Did you have your computer checked by a computer hardware specialist? Depending on what part of the computer died, you can actually still get your important files backed up and you can use them with another computer. I suggest you check that option out before you spend 2 or 3 hours recreating things.

Thanks for the reminder to back up my stuff, especially the wedding stuff!
