This is a REALLY popular militar wedding tradition! I was talking to my friend about it, cause her WHOLE family is in the military and she’s marrying an officer. She said the only way to get out of it is not to have a military wedding and to ask not to have it is disrespectful. Love it! I think it’s so fun!

Just ask them not to swat your behind, and make sure your hubby backs you up when you tell them!

I think that if you want the arch, you just need to accept this part of it.  It’s part of the tradition.  I think it’ll be the least painful part of being married to the military! LOL.

sory to say, but ya gotta do it.  Asking not to is a huge insult (but not as big as not having a miltary wedding) to military members and families.  We all go through it, everyone knows about it, it will be funny!  Honestly, its a split moment of the entire day.  You’ll laugh and then its over.  Its a tradition, just let them do it.  It makes for some great photos trust me. The sabre arch looks awesome, then the “stop” looks great in photos, and if youre laughing, it captures raw emotion.  I promise its not as bad as it sounds =o)

Suck it up and smile!  Its jsut for fun and you’ll have enough cush from your dress you’ll be fine.  It doesnt hurt its just a swat. Its fun -go with it!
