In the past month my wedding world has been turned upside down. Here is a little background info for you all. My FI and I booked the Canfield Casino in Congress Park, Saratoga, November 2009 for our July 23, 2011 wedding; because if you want a place like the Canfield in prime summer months you book early! Well with all the track drama that occurred for it to even open this year we were hoping and praying that the track would open the last weekend in July 2011.

Yeah, we thought wrong. Our wedding is the Saturday of opening weekend! So instead of being excited to watch this:

Oh Track Season I Hate You : wedding track saratoga wedding Saratoga Race Track

    I now feel like this:

Oh Track Season I Hate You : wedding track saratoga wedding Stress2 300x255

What does this mean, well besides the fact that Saratoga will be insanely busy from everyone coming in from all over for opening weekend, the hotels have decided to jack up every room at least $200 a night. That's right ladies, so the hotels I thought I would be able to get rooms at for around $115 a night are now at least $300 a night!!! And on top of that no hotel will let me block hotel rooms! The one hotel that would would only block 15 rooms and you had to book at least 2 nights for $300 a pop. What person is going to spend $600 for two nights? That doesn't even include all the out of town guests we have coming from 12 different states, Germany, and Brazil...

*sigh* This was always a reality way in the back of my mind. In the depths behind all the wedding filled bliss in the front, but now it is just disappointing. Our friends who had their wedding booked for the last weekend of track, Travers Weekend, decided they didn't want to deal with all the nonsense and changed their date to October. Thankfully they had only booked the venue and photographer and could change easily. For us that it no longer an option and I have become attached to the date.

Are any other bees getting married during track season and feeling the wrath of Saratoga's jacked prices?

Girl that SUCKS!! I haven't picked a venue yet, but FI and I were looking at Hall of Springs. When I gave our date to the woman I was working with she started rambling about Jazz Fest being that weekend at SPAC. UGHHGGH. Great. Haha, no decisions have been made yet, but that's deff putting a damper on Hall of Springs for us.

Also when my aunt got married her bachelorette party was in Saratoga and it just happened to fall on the weekend of Skidmore's graduation. OMGGGG it was a complete disaster trying to find a hotel and of course the bars were freakin' MOBBED.

I know it's not ideal, but maybe you can find some hotels farther outside of Saratoga for your guests that might be cheaper. In the meantime... **HUGS** You have plenty of time to figure out what to do! Good luck!

@TinyTina: Trying to find a weekend in Saratoga during the summer that doesn't have something else conflicting with it is impossible I have found haha! We will probably try and block hotels in Amsterdam for out of town guests and if people want to shell out the money for the night of the wedding they can!

Good luck trying to find something in Saratoga if you go that route!!!

We live in Malta and it only takes us about 5 minutes to get to down-town Saratoga. With our close proximity to the track, the prices are definitely still higher during the summer but I think they are much less than being right in the city. The Hyatt of exit 12 is brand new and from what I hear, quite nice. Theres also the Roosevelt Inn off 13 which could work too. There are tons of hotels to choose from on route 9 heading to Saratoga. I'm sure a few of them would allow you to block off rooms.

FI's uncle visited this past track season and they stayed in Clifton Park. The prices were more affordable though a little further away.

I personally avoid Saratoga like a plague in the summer. It's not worth the stress of even trying to get to the mall.

    Good luck!

I hear ya. We picked a byweek for football, and it ended up being the biggest festival of the year, Roots, Blues and BBQ. We had hotel, traffic and some parking issues, but it wasn't ultimately as bad as I thought it would be. Miss you, btw!

@UpstateCait: Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to call them and ask for prices.

I feel ya! I wanted a summer wedding but since virtually all of our family is out of town and need to stay in hotels, my parents insisted that we book it well before track season, so we wound up going for early June 2012. Which is good anyway, I really start to hate Saratoga when all the tourists start swarming...

I used to book weddings in Saratoga/Lake George for a living - I second trying the Hyatt Place in Malta, the Fairfield Inn in Malta, and CLifton Park, even the airport area in Albany.  If you have a wedding website, let your guests know to book early and while it's a little bit of a drive for them, it will save them a few hundred dollars and a lot of headaches!

Marriott hotels will usually let you book 10 rooms with no charges/deposits on your part and hold them until a month (or 6 weeks during summer/track) before your wedding.

Some of the other independent hotels may give you rates but not hold rooms.

    Good luck!
