My favorite YA author is Ellen Hopkins. I love her books to death, and have ready several multiple times. I'm actually friends with her on Facebook, and she's always such a sweetheart and very friendly. She's always impacted me with her writing.
Last night I finally finished a rough draft of a poem I've been mentally mulling over for quite a while now. The topic is a very tough one--sexual abuse in the home, and the poem talks about specifically a father and daughter. Today, I decided to be brave and tag Ellen on two of my proudest poems, just as a "what the heck" let's see what happes kinda deal..
Not even five minutes later and I get this comment:
" It could use a little tightening in places, but WOW! Amazing piece of writing. Brave. I don't think it needs more anger. Confusion is better because of that love-hate thing going on, child and father."
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited. I know my poem could be stronger, but the fact that she would take the time makes me love her even more. And the fact that she liked it, and said it was good....bam, my heart is pounding! :)))) <-- (biggest smile ever!!)
