Venues. Depending on where you are in Australia the good venues can book out early. Some over a year in advance. It will also guide the rest of your planning.

Once you have the venue and date locked in then you can do the celebrant, cake etc. Then the choose the invites with a printer and lock the price in for printing next year.

Do a rough guestlist now with addresses etc so you are good to go next year.

@j_jaye:  +1 to most of that. I would say:

1. Work out approximate size of guest list, and approximate budget.

2. Book venue. Depending where you book, many venues include catering.

3. Other things to book work around the date you book your venue for. Perhaps even more important than the celebrant is the photographer, it will probably be your 2nd biggest expense after venue/catering. So start looking at photographers (and videographers if you want one) and try to book one soon after you’ve booked your venue.

Other things like invites, cake, florist, decorations…  It’s nice if you can organise them now, but no rush.
