I know the person I talked to was probably just a secretary BUT…
Today, as I am still searching for a teaching job, I called a personnel office with a simple question about the application procedure. Most school districts now require everything to be submitted online, and after you input your references those people are emailed a form/link to a form to complete as a reference.
This school’s website was unclear as to whether I was responsible for sending the forms (a pdf was provided saying I “may” use it), or whether they wanted me to provide a formal letter and were giving me the option of sending the forms to some references/additional references.
When I called to ask about the correct procedure, the lady who answered first LAUGHED at me, when she said, “you can do it however you want”, and when I explained the above (that most school systems automate the process so that if I sent a form, the references would end up getting it twice), she laughed again and said, “Uh, no we don’t send anything for you.” And when I said, okay thanks for your help, she replied, “okaaaaaaaay!” as if I was a child.
I’m just pissed at how unprofessionally I was treated! That was not a crazy question, and even if it was, someone working in the personnel office should be able to answer even the dumbest question professionally…. I learned how to do that pretty fast working in customer service for years in high school/college!
UGH! Good lord, I hope she was not actually anybody in charge of the hiring process!
