Ok, what's wrong with this venue?

@marinesfiance:  Looks to me like you found yourself a great deal on a gorgeous venue.

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. it looks like a big open slate.

a few things to ask about:

  • can you decorate however you want?
  • hang things on the walls/from the beams?
  • can you bring in rentals if you want?
  • do you have to be completely cleaned up by 10pm?
  • are there enough outlets for the DJ? (if you’re having a DJ)

I think it looks awesome.  I went to a wedding this year held in a similarly lovely facility at a state park in washington and it was awesome.

I don’t mean to be a bummer, but it’s going to kind of suck to have to clean up that night.  And I’m not sure you could get it done in an hour… we had a similar DIY venue and it took us several hours to clean up everything.

Would they be willing to charge you another half day or something, so that you could clean in the morning?

@marinesfiance:  WE had a geat time.  This particular state park has these cabins that we all stayed in, so we all spent the whole weekend there having bonfires and getting to know each other.  It was great.

The actual wedding reception was great.  Yummy food, pie buffet, all the drinks you could want.  I think they also shut down the venue around 10 or 11 but since we were all staying down the hill in the cabins we went down there, got changed, and hung out around the bonfire.

They did an open bar for beer, wine, and cider (plus juice and soda for the kids).  Surprisingly, they weren’t required to have a bartender serve the beverages, so they put everyting in big ice buckets and let people help themselves in a bar area.  I love unlimited beer and wine.  I know they ended up having lots left over.  Leftovers can usually be returned, but they’ve just kept it and will drink it themselves over the next year.

@marinesfiance:  Before I looked at your location I looked at the picture and I was like WHAT — that looks just like that place in Coralville!  We fell in LOVE with that venue, too, but in the end knew we could not keep our guest list to under 100.  We definitely would have gone with this venue if we could have cut our guest list more.  It is awesome!  We ended up going with Festhalle in Amana instead.  Good luck!
