I do I do!!! I hate the dentist and I haven’t had a cleaning in about 5 years…yikes 🙁 THe only problem that I have had was 3 years ok I was getting this horrible pain in one my back teeth and I ended up needing a root canal. Well, the tooth is the last tooth on the top and I went to have it cleaned out ( the pulp, nerves and infention) they then put a temp. filling in there and ready for this…it’s still in there because that alone was $450 and for the actually root canal was around $800 PLUS the crown…$900. So let’s just say that I’m avoiding it because that’s some serious dough! I don’t have dental insurance so I would have to pay out of pocket to fix it. But with all this said, I’m thinking about going for a cleaning in the next few weeks since I haven’t gone in 5 years but I’m so scared that they’re going to find like 10 cavities that I won’t be able to filled or worse! Anyone else hate the dentist???

Me Me Me!!!! Just a cleaning puts me in pain. Right now, I don’t have dental coverage, but when I do, I’m going to need a root canal.

I love my teeth too but I wish I didn’t hate the darn dentist!! lol I have sensitive bottom teeth so I need them cleaned badly…they are prone to tarter/plaque build up even though I brush, floss and use mouth wash

I’m definitely NOT a fan. I went 6 years without a dental checkup, but luckily I had no new cavities 🙂 I do floss regularly (not daily, but several times a week) and I brush twice a day, I swish water around after eating or drinking, especially anything acidic!
Make sure you tell the hygenist that you’re nervous, and they will usually be gentle with you or explain what they’re doing, or talk to you to distract you. You’re not the first or last patient they will ever see who is anxious!!
Where’s Goosie- she recently went and survived 🙂

ME!! ME!! ME!! Every time I think I’m going for a simple filling or cleaning, it turns into something worse and much more expensive than planned. I have genetically bad teeth- both my mom and maternal grandfather have HORRIBLY weak teeth. My dentist even told me that almost all of my dental issues have nothing to do with my habits but everything to do with genetics. Sigh.

I actually do not hate the dentist because they are the only place I go where I am not harped on for something. They always say how great my teeth are. Any other time I go to a doctor appointment it’s bah bah bah….so when I go to the dentist it makes me gleem with pride inside LOL
oh man, I need a life HAHA

@DaneLady: I think the stress of knowing that I haven’t gone in 5 years is worse than the actual work that they will do….well at least I hope!

Me too! I have had tooth pain in this one tooth for 4 months now. I’m going to have to have a root canal and it’s on a canine tooth! NOT HAPPY! 🙁

My boyfriend hasnt been in 9 years and finally his wisdom tooth was hurting so he had to go muahaha he only had 4 cavitys which is pretty good for 9 years and he might need a root canel but hopfully not. The dentist terrifys him. I don’t like it either but I care about my smile to much to ignore my teeth

@DaneLady: hahahahahah can you bet my reaction when I saw this title?!
are you able to get dental insurance at all? I know mine is through my company and I literally pay like $2 a month for it, so I’m not sure how much it costs to purchase on your own.
Like DL said…I just went and survived! I hadn’t gone in…..wait for it……6 years o_O. I don’t recommend doing that. Ever. Look for a dentist that mentions doing sedation dentistry or makes a point to feature how they work with those with dental fears. My last appt was really painful, and because I had been going to an orthodontist every 6 weeks for so long, I thought that maybe every six months was just supposed to be painful! WRONG!
I finally went for a cleaning last week…..and it was so not worth the waiting so long. It was literally 2% as painful as the last time I went. So completely different. And yes, I found out I had a bunch of cavities and I’m lucky that I didn’t need a root canal on one of them. I just went in for some of that work two days ago…..and that was way less painful than the last time I went. The one good thing about waiting so long is that technology has changed and it’s less painful now! So PLEASE go now! The longer you wait, the more damage (and cost!) you could be accumulating!
I’m seriously becoming an advocate about this now, lol – please feel free to PM my any questions!
