So I recently found out (and was crushed) that my favourite photographer’s pricing starts at $3,700.00 although she wouldn’t tell me specifically what that included, it’s already over budget.
I was thinking of spending about $2,000 – 3,000 (being the higher limit) on photography. And I want to get pictures of us getting ready, the ceremony and maybe some of the reception.
So I’m going to list some photographers I’ve been looking at and please let me know which one you like and why. Also I haven’t contacted most of them yet so I don’t know the pricing of all of them yet.
Also be warned most of them have music.
and of course the one who was my favourite : http://vickibartel.com/

Personally, I like the style of Brandon Scott and Eryn Shea the best. They’re a little trendy, but still classic. However, that’s what I strive for in my photography, so that’s what I’m drawn to 🙂
Also, if your wedding isn’t until 2015, why don’t you wait to book? You might change your mind or be able to save up for Vicki Bartel (whose work was gorgeous, btw)!

@Mrs.Camera: Would you say Vicki Bartel is more trendy?
I like all of them haha. And mostly because I don’t want to spend that much money, even if I do have it /:
I like Brandon Scott and Eryn Shea because theirs is less edited / filter-added looking I guess?

I know nothing about photography, so this is just from my personal preferences…
Brandon Scott is my favorite. Then Vicki Bartel.
I wasn’t a fan of Delmores editing.
I’m meh about Eryn and Love Knots.

I’m in the process of inquiring about price for the ones who don’t list their prices/package starting rates.

If one is already your favorite why are you considering so many others? Meet the favorite, if your personalities mesh then book them!

@continuumphotography: Because they’re too expensive for their minimum package.

And because I like the others as well

You listed your budget as $2000-3000, and she starts at $3000. My advice to anyone and everyone on here is to spend as much as you can to get the best possible photographer to photograph your event. Photos you love > cheaper photographer who includes more stuff. I don’t know how much coverage you need, but if she starts at $3000 I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get her to at least provide 6-8 hours of coverage and a disc for $3000. You stated she was your favorite, and to me a favorite trumps other photographers who may be offering more stuff for less. You can always find someone cheaper who offers more.
That being said. Eryn Shea looks to be more expensive than your favorite. Delmore Creative doesn’t list prices that I can see, but I’d be surprised if she started at less than $3000. Brandon Scott doesn’t list prices either, and again I would be surprised if his starting rate was less than $3000. I’ve actually seen his promo video before – it made me want to hire the videographers that he worked with. His website was frustratingly slow to load images though. I couldn’t tell who worked for Love Knots, whether it was a single photographer, or a large studio. I tend to advise people to stay away from big studios if you are looking for a personalized experience. The photos are good, but I would eiliminate them based on that. They are also strangely cheap. Strangely cheap is a warning sign. Of course I’d eliminate anyone with music on their site too, but that’s just me.
All of these photographers seem decent, but none of them save Love Knots lists pricing. So aside from them I don’t see anyone who ought to be a better deal $ wise than your favorite. Let me know if I’m missing something.

So I voted for Vicki Bartel… I just recently had issues with the photographer I had tentatively booked and now that I’ve shopped around, I’m open to spending a little bit more to get the quality of pictures that I really want. Like you, my wedding is still pretty far off and we can take advantage of that ample time! So I would recommend waiting a bit to decide. Take your time and shop around. You don’t want to pick one, and then have second thoughts (trust me, it isn’t fun second guessing such an important decision!)
Even if Vicki is slightly over your budget, if she’s your favourite and you DON’T book her, you’ll always wonder what if… what if you could’ve had better pictures? What if she could’ve done a better job? Whether or not she could’ve, you’ll wonder. But until you meet her, you never know. Maybe you won’t mesh well. And make sure any photographer you meet shows you at least 30 pictures from the same wedding so you can see how consistent they are.
Remember, if she’s over your budget, you could always ask for gift cards towards photography at your bridal shower. If it’s only a matter of a couple hundred dollars… even $500-700, at a big bridal shower you could easily make up that difference.

I am going to be the oddball here, but I LOVE Delmore’s style!! So vintagy looking and I love that!

You can try to negotiate with her, depending on what day your wedding is on. Since it’s on a Sarurday maybe not. Photographers are under the impression that the average wedding is $25-$30k, and they think 8-10% is a fair cut for photography. I had a guy quote us $3,500, and he dropped to $1,500. He subtracted an assistant and I told him I didn’t want them edited. Our wedding is on a Thursday, so it’s easy to get lower prices. But if you tell her your budget and tell her how much you can afford, she might work with you.
Otherwise, since your wedding isn’t for a while, you could hold off for a bit and see if you can afford her. Or maybe if you have a wedding site or a lot of facebook friends, you can offer to advertise for her for a price cut. I don’t know what her demand is, but it’s worth a shot.
I’d offer photograph opinion but I’m on my phone and it’s not liking the sites. I’ll be back. haha

LOVE brandon scott- more than vicki. it seems to have that same vibe but with a more timeless touch.
I think that Vicki is super trendy and you’d regret it.
