The more “shoe” posts I see on here, the more I realize that I just do not understand how to pick shoes. 🙂 I know I want flats, both for comfort and because SO’s and my height difference lends itself to wonderfully comfortable hugs, but I can’t find a reason to put any effort into finding “the shoes.” This is my logic – my dress is long, so the shoes will only be seen occassionally, so it doesn’t really matter what they look like. Right or wrong?
I must be wrong because there are so many bees spending so much time and effort deciding between shoes that, to me, all would serve the same purpose. What am I missing? How (and why) do you deliberate on shoes?
I’m not trying to be snarky – I really want to know! Please tell me what I’m missing!

I just love shoes! And I want something that I’ll be able to wear after the wedding too. It’s not like I’ll ever wear the dress again, but everytime I wear the shoes it’ll be a little reminder of the wedding 🙂

For me, I wanted statement shoes that I could wear again. But my wedding dress could never be worn again so my shoe budget was higher than my dress budget. I ended up well below my shoe budget so it was less than my dress, but to me the shoes were more important.
I also wanted pretty shoes for the cliche shoes/accessory photos.

I initially thought I would wear a pair of flats that I already own (and love). My mom was not thrilled with the idea. I promised her that I would look at some new ones, and I’d try the shoes I was thinking of with the dress to make sure they would be okay. I also figured, “the dress is long, no one will see them, and I want to be comfortable and not tower over Fiance (we’re almost exactly the same height).”
So I kept my promise and tried them on. Turned out, they didn’t look as good as I’d hoped with the dress, and they were visible every time I took a step. (My gown has an A-line skirt, no crinoline, and the shoes peeked out under the scalloped lace edge of the hem when I walked.) I wasn’t so thrilled with the idea in reality, and so I started looking for nice, comfortable flats that would coordinate with the gown.
I tried several pairs from Zappos (free shipping and returns!) and rejected all of them. Then I found these:
Nordstrom’s also has free shipping and returns (yay!) so I was able to try several sizes and find the ones that worked the best. They look great with the gown, the flowers look cute peeking out from under the lace edge of the hem, the color works beautifully, they are extremely comfortable, and I am confident that I will be able to wear them down the road, not just for the wedding. WIN. End of search.

The reason I cared so much about picking the perfect pair of shoes, was because I know there are going to be some wedding photos of just my shoes/accessories. And those pictures will be aorund forever. Plus I just love shoe shopping 🙂 It wasn’t hard for me to pick mine but if I had more money in the budget for them, it woud’ve been more difficult.

@gangqinjia: I would suggest that you get a pair that closely matches your dress and maybe have a bit of sparkle to them as well. I love shoes but in all honesty I really am not sure how people go about picking wedding shoes – especially flats.
