I think this dress is a bit MAD. A bit over the top. And still I want to give in and love it.
It is technically a prom dress but the white one is part of the Sherri Hill "white collection" which is also marketed as wedding wear I guess.
And I can take white more seriously but OMG the pink. The PINK!! Looks like a cupcake and so so yummy. Yet I do wish it came in pale blue. I would buy it I am sure. Yet at the same time it seems a bit.. I don't know.. a bit toooo whimsical maybe?
It's $650. Here it is in white AND pink. And I like that the designer and I share a first name.
I could see it with a faux fur wrap or bolero. I am having an early spring wedding (well for the area we're marrying in it will be cold!)...
Could you take this seriously as a bridal gown? Can you see it dressed up to be more "bridal", whatever that means to you?
Hmmmm.

Cool! Reminds me of this Maggie Sottero dress; http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=rhianna+royale&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=S5094HP
the pink IS YUMMY!!!! i think another bee has purchased (or considered) this dress a while ago. have you tried it? want to post pix so that we can be a better judge?
Nah I haven't tried it but I'm going to see where I can find it in town. I am seriously considering this one, prom or not. I want something unique and this is that! I am sure it will be easier to locate to try on since it's a prom dress and everything I've found so far that's UNIQUE has been impossible to find in real life.
The only thing I am not sure of is the rosettes on the bust. I'm a 38DD as it is. Seems like it would be a bit "busy". I hope I can see it in person because maybe I could alter or remove them or something..
I agree the pink is yummy! Hope I can try on both!
FI has been following along with all my dress obsession (none of that hiding the dress here, I have no one else IRL to share with!).. and she says that she likes this one best out of everything I've found so far!
@nzbride: Yeah, i can see that... it also reminded me of this Alfred Angelo (but a hyper version, lol!)
Oh jeez! Just looked and there is not ONE store that carries Sherri Hill in my city. What?! Do I live in Mayberry!? (I live in a huge city!)
There's a store in a town half an hour a way. guess I will call them tomorrow. This has been an ongoing theme with ANYTHING I find that I like! I need to move!
@trugem: White...? Or Pink? Oh the pink is tempting!
@MsInterpret: Can you try both on and see which one matches your skin tone best? If you go with the pink you can wear a rose colored veil. I say go with the pink.
@trugem: I'm calling tomorrow, hopefully the ONE store reasonably close has both colors in stock! At least (maybe?) since they are prom dresses they might have more selections? I don't know.
I do hope the pink looks good. I can have tons of fun with pink accessories too. Pink can be awesome on me or gross... so I would have to try it on. :) I am drawn to pink regardless of if it looks good on me or not. Leftover from childhood I guess. (on a side note, our 7 year old DD hates pink and would wear nothing but purple if she could! 1st little girly girl I've ever known who hated pink)
Honestly, if you like pink, you should have pink. For any couple, I strongly recommend following the traditions that are meaningful and ditching the rest. And for those of us ditching the tradition of how many brides are normally involved in a wedding, I have real trouble imagining anyone willing to come to the ceremony being horrified because the gown is the "wrong" color.
@2dBride: LOL yes, I know what you mean, and I am not worried about what anyone else thinks of my gown choice. It's just that I have these weird hangups about wearing something "bridal", as in classically bridal, whatever that is. And not based on color, because I know that white and the tradition of wearing white is actually rather recent.... it's more about what I have in my mind as an idea of what is "bridal" and what is not. And I have these funny little hangups about keeping it a little subdued, lots of lace, fabric covered buttons, a bustle... you know.. stereotypically bridal. A little more old fashioned I guess (but I still really really love the idea of a blue wedding gown!)
And all of this is hilarious because if you knew me.. well... I am tattooed in many obvious places and I had pale pink hair for much of last year and for me to be sputtering about traditional and such and such has everyone around me snickering a bit! You should have seen my brother look at me cockeyed when I told him I felt "indecent" in a strapless dress. Then again he remembers how I dressed in high school!
So the battle is internal only, fighting my own ideas about what I should wear and what I see as "ideal", vs. what kind of frothy confections I am wowed by. I want to feel gorgeous and stunning but with an air of dignity and sometimes I wonder if the dresses I lust after will do that for me.
This dress was made to be worn in pink and would be absolutley AMAZING as a wedding dress.
I actually looked at this gown as a possible future wedding dress! I think it's gorgeous. I would totally do it in pink too
I think the white is far too much like a wedding dress to be appropriate for a prom- go for it!
I LOVE that dress! IMO you can wear whatever white (or non white) dress that you want for a wedding dress.
But that dress deff looks like a wedding gown to me even in the pink YUM!
Yes Yes Yes!! This is the coolest dress. I love it in both pink and white.
If you hadn't told us that this dress wasn't 100% designed and marketed as a wedding dress, I never would have known!
It's beautiful. Go for it. If you like the pink better, choose that. It looks less "bridal" in the automatic "bright white" connection sense, but I think the pink is even lovelier, actually.
When my mom's college roommate got married to a woman, some 15-20 years ago, I wanted to know whether one of them would wear a black suit. Nope: One of them wore a pink dress and the other wore a yellow dress. I thought that was very pretty. My kid-self would absolutely approve of you choosing the pink dress. :-)
Definitely! Either color, but I think you could totally rock the pink, it's gorgeous!!!
This dress is awesome in both colors! I really like the PINK! :) I bet you could totally pull it off! Get whatever color you want! It's your day!
I love both! A dress that gorgeous will look amazing in any color.
I think it's awesome!!!! The pink is adorable!!! The white actually looks like more like a wedding dress than a prom dress.
Wow, this dress is amazing! I would definitely wear it, in fact I wish I had found it before I bought my dress! (not that I don't love my dress...but this is the look that I was going for and its sooo affordable!)
it can certainly pass for a wedding dress...looks similar to my allure c157 :)
Okay I am certainly convinced to at least go try it on!
Thanks for all the feedback!
Just a suggestion, if you want more of a train effect -- you can add a cathedral veil. I love it, Charming Charlie has a purse that will go with it (or, they DID a few months ago when I bought it)... I think this is WAY more wedding than prom oriented... I heart this dress....
If anything, I'd say it's a little too "Bridal" to wear to prom!
It's really unique & pretty~
Wow that is a prom dress? That is one hell of a dress! I don't care what section of the store it was in, it is looks great!
LOVE IT! If you hadn't said it was a prom dress, I would have never known!
So pretty!!
I think it would make a great wedding dress! I agree with Pwitty about it being too bridal for prom anyway. Looks 100% like a wedding dress and 0% like a prom dress.
You guys are right. Besides, it's a great price for a wedding dress ($650) and admittedly my prom was a VERY long time ago... but does anyone seriously pay $650 for a prom dress?? I remember mine for Jr. prom was around $100 and my mom fought that tooth and nail! lol! For Sr. prom she made it at home with existing fabric and only had to pay for a zipper and some other materials.
I have this dress in my store in pink, red, and white. I have more people buy it in pink for weddings than in white! In pink, the tulle and the lace are two slightly different tones, so the details really POP on it. It is stunning in person.
@MissTatas: OH!! I can quiz you this dress a little? LOL. Actually I just wondered how the rosettes are attached on the bodice. I know some would be horrified but if it were possible I would probably alter that one thing about it... there's so much "going on" above the taffeta on the waistline for me that I am afraid I'd be "all boob" if you know what I mean. It would, I think, enhance the DDs which I do not want.. so I was looking at it and thinking how I'd love it if the bodice were a little more... umm.. "smooth". Do you think that'd be possible to remove them without destroying the fabric underneath to the point where it couldn't be covered with something else..? I would replace them with lace or something to cover up any bare spots after removing the rosettes. Okay I am crazy probably but it would really work for me that way!
I think the red is gorgeous too. I will whine again that I wish it came in pale blue! Oh well.
Oh the white is beautiful!! Would you be able to....dye it light blue??
I adore it! But I'm mad about rosettes! Super cute and I wouldn't think anyone would confuse it for a prom dress. Love it!
