Ok, I would usually say no to this, but they are guys afterall. I guess you can't do anything about it anyway, except sending a different one. I would NOT send a color copy though, that just sounds bad! Good luck.
Most likely, no one will see another person's invitation, so no one will know that they got an invitation that looks different from someone else's. So long as the invitations they get still look nice, everything will be fine!
just say "oh, I couldn't decide which design I liked better so I went with both!" and laugh it off. they will have no idea which design was the back-up

I think it's totally, absolutely, so completely fine. The only way I can see it being a problem is if *you* were bothered by it, but you seem really easygoing about it. Send 'em off so the rest of us can be jealous that you can check it off your list! :-D
Absolutely nobody is going to show up with their invitation in hand and start comparing it to all the other invitations, so it doesn't matter at all. Go ahead and send whatever you think looks nice, and don't worry about it.

Well, as it turns out, I hadn't anticipated the exact number of invitations we would need to hand out, so we are short invitations, and these are suppose to go to my fiance's friends. (I guess we saved his friends for last...) The problem is, I bought my invitation templates at Big Lots, and there are no more left because I bought them all really cheap. I could color copy the invitation, but it kinda turns out looking copied and the heart borders are cut off on the top and bottom. Anyway, I figured I could do without the heart-border design and just put a regular piece of cardstock paper behind it, but it will obviously look different from the rest of the invitations. Do you think his friends will mind? They are guys, afterall. I actually like these new ones I will make a little more. What to do?
