to me, the bible doesn't give an exact date. it could be tomorrow, it could be 3000 years from now.
i think the aztecs just stopped at a certain date. period. nuthin' more nuthin' less. :)

People have been predicting the end of the world since the dawn of time and it hasn't happened yet. I don't believe that the Mayans who have long since disappeared know the date anymore than anyone else. Even Nostradamus has predicted it and everyone now agrees that he has no credibility and people read way too much into and create scenarios to fit what he wrote to attempt to make sense of it and have something to talk about because they aren't happy with anything else.
Also, using the Bible as reference, people back in Jesus' day were expecting the world to end anytime. In the Middle Ages, people took the concept so far that they refused to live their lives because they waiting for the end of the world at every breath. I completely agree that people who obsess over the end of the world and claim that they know when it is are only lying to themselves and others and have essentially stopped living their lives as you said. The idea of 'live each day to the fullest' is completely lost on them since you can't do that and worry about the world ending at the same time. Why worry about it when everyone else who has predicted it has been proven wrong time and again. In the end, they only look like idiots.
I don't spend my time wondering about things I can't control, like what the weather will be like on a certain date or when the world might end...there's too much living to do to spend time on that.
I believe that all dates are human constructs. Maybe there is some funky astrological stuff going on that day... but I bet we could spin solar events to make any day look funky if we looked hard enough :)
I'm just not a worrier about stuff I can't control like that. I didn't think the world would end on jan 1 2000. I didn't think the world would end on 6/6/6. I don't think the world will end on 12/21/12

I have heard that this is because the Mayan calander ends that day...was is supposed to go on forever? I mean seriously. I have also heard some prophecy about the world as we know it ending when it is covered by a world wide web. That sounds more like some kind of change is coming. And I've also heard that something weird will happend when our poles shift or something. Botom line-I'm pretty over it. lol. I totally agree with you.
The thought of it freaks me out but I don't think it's true. And that movie looks SCARY!!! Not sure how there could be a happy ending... LOL!
I don't believe this to be true at all.
It was supposed to happen in 1689, 1984, in 2000, in 2006, and a couple hundred other dates. In 2012: If it ends, it ends. There's nothing we can do about it. However, I won't live my life in fear of the possible end of the world.
Only the Lord knows, and I'm ready for Him when He takes me home!
Its very interesting to think about, thats for sure. Definately want to see the movie though. Dont really know either way but i guess anything is possible at any time.

I was quite young on the year 2000 prediction and i do recall absolutely shi**ing myself that it was going to end lol Id like to hope it doesnt end as i have a few life goals ill have to speed through.

So, not to freak anyone out, but I had to start this poll.
I don't know if anyone here has heard all the hype about how people think the world is going to end on Dec. 21st, 2012. Personally I don't belive it. The bible says that God will come like a thief in the night, and it also says that Jesus says not even he knows when God will end the world, and personally I think people who do belive the world is going to end on this day have already decided to stop living. I think they are just waiting around for the world to end. And there have been so many times where people have thought the world was going to end, and we are still here. Like 2000 for example, and I remember when people thought 6.6.06 was the end because of 666. So I want to know what you all think?
