I'm a Tulsa bride who is getting married at Grand Lake in September.
There's very little online for Oklahoma brides! If anyone has any info on florists, please let me know!
Hey ya'll! I'm from Henryetta. No date set yet but it's never too early to plan! LOL
Howdy! Another Tulsa Bride here. We are actually getting married in Guthrie on October 17. It is a beautiful old city with a ton of historical landmarks. We are getting married at the Presbyterian Church and it was founded on Land Run Day, very cool. They are also letting my uncle marry us, even though he is not Presbyterian and for that matter, neither are we.
Yay! More oklahoma brides! I am getting married in 11 days!!! Oklahoma City at the Walnut Creek Chapel!
Oklahoma Girl here in MWC, getting married on sept 12th! Having a very unique skull tattoo wedding! Theme is Love Never Dies!
Hooray for Oklahoma brides! I'm getting married in Tulsa on 10-10-09! Any one have any good photography or florist ideas???
I'm using Storybook Photography. I have heard really good things about them and if you book them during one of their special promotions the prices arent' too bad.
My florist is a woman who works out of her home in OKC named Christi Gulley. She is doing everything for a great price since she doesn't have the overhead of running a shop.
Hey girls! I'm an OK bride. I live in OKC, but I'm getting married in my hometown of Poteau, OK. May 2010 can't get here fast enough!
I'm an Oklahoma bride too! We're getting married June 26, 2010 in Edmond. He's from Tulsa and I'm from Choctaw.
oddly enough is I was actually wondering if there was anyone from Oklahoma on here. I was born and raised there but I'm in Missouri going to school right now ...gosh I'm homesick lol
I was born and raised in OK and moved to Texas for my job. I'm having my wedding in Texas, but will be going back for my bridals in Guthrie and boudoir at the Skirvin!
Oklahoma Here... and need help..... Please! We are getting married in June in Destin Fl. But having the reception here. I was looking for a place that will rent out a pool area that also allows alcahol. I know its going to be hard to find! Thanks Bunches....
OK Bride here in Sand Springs, just west of Tulsa. Plans are to marry at First United Methodist downtown Tulsa and tentative reception is at Harwelden.
One more!! I was born and raised in Tulsa.. wedding in a week @ Philbrook!
I am an Oklahoma bride, too! I just got engaged last month and the wedding will be in 2012. I am so excited!
Welcome @bookwormbride! What area of Oklahoma are you planning in?
hah i'm a oklahoma bride too (got engaged in July) planning in the metro area. it's too bad this board is so dead!
@Kittel-Wilson: I'm from Lawton! Shout Out!
I live in Dallas though, and got married in Austin :)
@soonerpsych: We are probably going to get married in the Tulsa area, but right now I am living in Norman pursuing my bachelor's degree.
I really wish this board got more play. Even the Oklahoma board on The Knot is slow.
I'm getting married in OKC in March 2011 (planning from Albquerque, and long distance planning without money in the budget for a wedding planner is the pits).
Here's my list of vendors I chose, and a few runners up in case it helps anyone.
Ceremony:
Oklahoma State Capitol. Although the space itself is free, you have to rent chairs and we are renting a sound system so it adds up. It works okay for us, but it's definitely not the venue for everyone!
We looked at A LOT of places, but did not consider any outdoor venues because an outdoor wedding in March would have been too risky.
I would have loved Old Trinity, but the space was just too small for the ceremony AND reception, and they don't let you just do a ceremony only rental on Saturday nights.
We initially planned on Cobblestone Creek in Norman, but we were underwhelmed with the caterer they make you use.
Reception:
Red Prime. FI is a chef, and so food was VERY important to him. They don't have a room charge, and we'll just meet their minimum with food and alcohol. They changed event coordinators on us, but we met the new one this week and I think she'll be great!
Flowers: Char0lette at New Leaf on 23rd and May: She's been doing this for years, and wass very patient with me and really helped solidfy my vision. I'm sure they aren't the cheapest in town, but we are just doing bouquets (no floral decorations) and so it wasn't too bad.
I also met with Rebecca's silver rose, and she was awesome. I couldn't decide between the two, and honestly ended up flipping a coin.
Cake:
Sugar (Norman): Christine was SO nice during the consultation (even though I think she's a little irritated that we don't want fondant) and the cakes we tasted were super moist and yummy. We signed the contract on the spot.
Good luck to all the OK brides out there!
@nmsoonerbride: haha i knew you were doing red prime! now i feel like a creep. totally agree about our boards being slow - the knot one is definitely more active, but that's not saying much. like i said in a reply to you before, i'm looking at a small party as well of 60-75 and am trying to decide if i'll stick with the metro area or book it to Tulsa, where my FI is originally from. my extended family will be coming from the Dallas area so I thought the metro would be a good middle ground, but if we have it in Tulsa, maybe more of his friends will be inclined to come. I have narrowed down my metro area picks to about 5 places, which include Red Prime. My FI's mom does catering in Tulsa though (she's the best chef I know and I've had some of the leftovers from weddings she's catered and they were fantastic! pork medallions and roasted new potatoes... mmm! so if any Tulsa brides are looking for a caterer let me know, and i can give you their info!) and she'd like to be able to help in that realm. there will be good food as long as we go either of those routes, but my main worry is about venue size. i don't want it to seem like the room is too big, or conversely too small. I still need to visit Red Prime to get a feel for the room and see if it's too big. though if you're thinking it'll be fine for your size (50-60) then that gives me hope! i fell in love with the OK Heritage Museum but I think it's probably too big for me to justify the price ($3,500 for a saturday for any bees considering) AND having to use Cheevers on top of that. it would probably end up nearing $6,000 compared to about $4,500 at Red Prime (going off of the $35 set menu), which on one hand doesn't seem like much but on the other, can buy a lot of honeymoon fun and add to a down payment on a house. If you have any other insight into Red Prime, I'll definitely take it! PM me and I can give you my email if you have anything :D
@elliestan: Don't get me wrong: The Showroom at RP is big. But, by the time we set up an area for cocktail hour (they have some lounge furniture even), a 'kid's corner', a DJ/dancefloor (not something I'm exctied about having, but FI's family really seemed to want dancing, and my sister hooked us up with a DJ who is supposed to be GREAT at entertaining kids), a bar, and dinner tables it will work nicely. If you are interested in decor (we aren't) you could certainly do some draping to block off part of the room if you wanted to. There aren't bathrooms upstairs (you just use the restaraunt bathroom downstairs), so I don't love that. They provide chocolate brown tablecloths, or you can rent other colors for $5 each.
For weddings, they let you sub some passed appetizers in lieu of the desserts on the $35 dollar menu, which is nice. They also do $5 chicken finger plates for the kiddos.
We do LOVE the food at cheevers, but I agree that $1500 difference is nothing to sneeze at. Could you do the ceremony at the Heritage Center as well? That might make the cost difference more worth it.
I have to tell you, though, I'd be VERY tempted to do it in Tulsa if FIs mom's company could help with the catering (she may also know enough people to get you some good deals on other things as well).
Tulsa bride here, got married 9.10.10. Both the ceremony and reception were held at Vive Le Ranch, it was so much fun! (beer, BBQ and dancing). Anyone looking into a barn venue, I highly reccomend this place, but be prepared to DIY, comes with nothing but the barn, also allows for a lot of freedom though.
Any questions about vendors, etc: just ask!!
@Lilyann: I have my wedding date set for 9.17.11 at Vive le Ranch! Any tips would be amazing! I don't know where to start!!!
