I love Old Town. I used to live right on the outskirts. Just a great place to live and go.
It really is. I try to spend as much time there as possible, but living in DC doesn't always make that possible.
We're getting married in Old Town in May too :) Reception is in Springfield though. We took our engagement pictures in Old Town a few weeks ago and got some really great shots.
I work in Old Town, it is super lovely for a wedding, and there are so many awesome places for pictures :-)
I live in Springfield. And I'm getting married in Bluemont, VA.
No, but I just wanted to chime in and say I lived there with my family for three summers while I interned in D.C. It's a gorgeous setting for weddings, I bet!
I agree Old Town is a beautiful setting. We plan on taking our e-pics out there early next year.
We live just outside Old Town, but we're Catholic and felt the church we would have to be married in based on where we live was too hard core for us so we joined a more liberal church in DC so we're having the reception there too. I'm super excited about it, but I'm slightly jealous of the OT brides because the venues here are so gorgeous and I've lived in Alexandria my whole life and always thought I'd be married there.
Hello! This is my first post/reply/whatever! I love Old Town, my fiance and I both work in Old Town and we're getting married here in October.
Hi,
This is my first comment!! Finally decided to join the Wedding Bee after reading a lot of usefull posts:)
We are getting married in Old Town too in October:) Can't wait. We are going to have the ceremony at the St. Mary's church and will be meeting the priest this Thursday. **Kind of nervous** Does anyone getting married in that church too?
We haven't decided on the reception venue however. So, any idea for an affordable venue in the area since FI and I are paying by ourselves?
FI and I live in (and LOVE) Old Town! But our families are in Atlanta (where we're from) so that's where our wedding will be. I have definitely walked around Old Town and scouted venues, etc. What venues are you Old Town Bees using??
Brenda--
I'm not sure if this is "technically" considered Old Town, but if not, it's right on the outskirts by the Patent Office...check out the Carlyle Club (www.thecarlyleclub.com). That's where we're having our reception. It's a gorgeous Art-Deco style restaurant/music venue. The owner is very flexible to work with and he did an awesome job of meeting my budget (we're paying for it by ourselves too)!
Hi Brenda! My husband and I live in Old Town, and we were new to the area when we were planning our wedding. We loved the town so much though we decided to have our guests come to us, here, for the celebration. They LOVED coming out here and spending time in such a great town. Some went into the city, too, which is easy with the metro.
We held our rehearsal dinner in Old Town, outside, at a Greek restaurant, which was very fun and festive and right near the hotels our guests stayed at (it's close to The Morrison House and Hotel Monaco). But the next day for the wedding we drove out to Patowmack Farm for a brunch ceremony. It was gorgeous (happy to share pictures if you'd like).
One of the gifts we gave our family members were these awesome moleskin journals by a local artist: http://www.etsy.com/shop/artsharkdesigns. She met me in person to deliver them. At the time, she didn't have the Alexandria design, so we used the two DC ones (since that's where we met and lived prior). Even if not for your wedding, these are certainly worth knowing about if you live in the area!
Happy to answer any questions about the area with regard to your planning! And congratulations!
I was married at Blessed Sacrament in Alexandria and our reception was at the new Westin in Old Town! We have SO many awesome pictures from Prince Street and the waterfront. If anyone is interested let me know! Good choice ladies!
Oh our rehearsal dinner was at Union Street Pub which was great as well!
i love old town alexandria! it reminds me of the fan in richmond where i used to hang out as a teen and williamsburg, VA where i went to college and im getting married.
great choice :) the water and cobblestone.... gorgeous :)
I'm getting married in Old Town. FI and I actually didn't want to go too far from home. So, we're getting hitched at The Morrison House and then taking family out for a boat cruise on the waterfront afterwards. Old Town definitely has a nice vibe.. ..and it's got quite a few good places to take pictures.
@BrendaVA: Hi Brenda. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. I was wondering if you were a member at St. Mary's in Old Town? I love that church but my FI and I are members in another church in Alexandria. Do you know if it is possible for non-members to marry there?
Carlyle House, in Old Town is a really nice little ceremony or reception venue. They have gardens and a gazebo for ceremonies and a terrace for receptions. http://www.nvrpa.org/park/carlyle_house_historic_park/content/rentals
We live in the Huntington area of Alexandria. I used to live in Old Town until I moved in with FI. We are doing our e-pics there.

Is anyone else getting married in Old Town Alexandria, or just Old Town for that matter? :-)
We currently live in DC, but we're getting married in Old Town in May and we're actually moving to Old Town in March!
