I am planning to do this, as well.  I love Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, etc.

@nrieder:  Off the top of my head . . .

Cole Porter: Delovely; Night and Day; Anything Goes

Ella Fitzgerald: Let’s Fall in Love; I Get a Kick Out of You; Dream a Little Dream of Me

Sarah Vaughan: The Shadow of Your Smile

Tony Bennett: LOL, everything. Steppin’ Out is one of my favorites.

Also, Thanks for the Memories by Bob Hope is one of my favorite old-timey happy songs!

The way you look tonight

Smile

It had to be you

Feeling good

Beyond the Sea

Moon Dance

Sway

La Vie en Rose

Unforgettable

What a wonderful world

All of me

Strangers in the night

I’ll be seeing you

Lost

All I do is Dream of you

When I fall in Love

Save the Last Dance for Me

Sorry if there are repeats, I was just going through my list of songs we are playing 🙂 Most of these are sung by more than one artist so I always just choose my favorite one!

A few ideas:

Bobby Darin — Beyond the Sea

Bobby Darin — More

Peggy Lee — Fever

Anita O’Day — Honeysuckle Rose

Nat King Cole — I Love You for Sentimental Reasons

Ella Fitzgerald — All the Things You Are

Nina Simone — My Baby Just Cares for Me

Julie London — Come on a My House

Anything by any of these artists would do (except Nina Simone — some of her stuff wouldn’t fit the bill). If you google Great American Songbook you should get plenty of suggestions for standards, most of which have been covered by basically all of these artists!

We’re doing this, too!  I shall bookmark this thread, there have been lots of great song suggestions.  I found a lot of things I liked by youtube-ing songs I like and then checking out the “suggested videos” that came up on the side!

Just start listening to Pandora on Frank Sinatra – you’ll find lots of good stuff.  Or check out the labels on CD’s at stores – look for collections of love songs by Frank Sinatra & Friends – you get the idea.

I also told my DJ/brother to play some oldies during dinner and right after.  I love it.  Fiance not so much but he’s not really a dancer and my family will dig it.
