Just found out there is a small chance that we may be relocating to Omaha in the future - hubs used to live there (in Bellevue) and still has a house out there, but tell me, what's it like out there? =)

    @toothdr - thanks for your help =)

i am not really sure what i am asking about, in particular, but as far as what to possibly expect...i was looking on wikipedia and stuff, but i think my main curiosities include:

    1. Weather
    2. Day to day life - what do you do for fun in NE?
    3. Umm...anything else random?

I've lived in different places growing up, but have never lived in the midwest.  I have lived in WA state, Japan, Korea and am currently in Orlando, FL.

    Again...I appreciate any comments/etc =D

I dont live in omaha but I have lived in NE for my whole life!  My FI used to live in omaha and he loves it there.  Also his best friend lives there now and loves it!  I can try to help you the best I can!  The weather in NE is pretty unpredictable...I guess thats the only way I can really put it!  Winters are pretty bad here, but also depends on where you live in the state.  I live about 2 hours away from omaha and its not too bad here but I know that sometimes its worse back east.

As far as stuff to do for fun.  Well, omaha is a pretty big city so there are plenty things to do!  I love to go to the zoo, to all the different malls, they have some pretty cool concerts at the quest center.  I really dont know about the night life or anything, but there are a couple casinos and stuff in Iowa which isnt a far drive.

I dont know what else to tell ya, if you have any questions be sure to ask and I am sure either @toothdr or I can try to help ya out!  Hope that helped!  Good Luck!

k, well weather like ashimmin can be unpredictable. However, we have all the seasons. For instance, we currently have about a foot of snow on the ground. The Fall is beautiful as is the spring, however quite a bit of rain. The summer is hot, and can get pretty humid, and you will become familiar with wind and thunderstorms. As far as fun things to do...well yes there is the zoo, there is the old marketplace downtown that's pretty cool. The Quest center has events and concerts pretty frequently. However, I will warn you, compared to the other places you have been you will have fewer choices of things to do.However, the people in Nebraska are great, so don't be afraid to try to talk to people or to get to know your neighbors. It will probably be an adjustment, but give it time and Nebraska will grow on you!P.S. be prepared for people to be crazy about football and to see ridiculous amounts of the color red.Let me know if you have any other questions!

@toothdr - there's only a foot of snow on the ground?  even after the 3 storms?  haha.

okay, so i'm not from OMAHA, but not too far away from the city.  i loved going into omaha - fantastic local music scene, the zoo is one of the best in the nation, i second the marketplace in downtown....

pretty much it's a small-town state and omaha has some of the benefits of being smaller, while at the same time it has the city/suburb feel, too.  (i love that the streets, for the most part, run North/South and East/West - hard to get lost too much!)

i second AND third what was said about having all the seasons.  ALL of them.  there are plenty of things to do if you look outside the box.  like, if you've ever thought about volunteering anywhere, there's a great sudanese refugee program or two... and plenty of other ways to meet interesting people!  the people MAKE nebraska.  enjoy it!

Wow!  Thanks so much everyone, I knew I could find great responses here...I mentioned it at work to a few people that it might be a possibility for us to move there and everyone was far more negative.

If we do move, I would be psyched the most about having seasons again.  Sure, FL can be nice, but it's one constant season pretty much; summer.  We did get a little colder this year, but yeah. =)

I also love the prospect of the midwest in the sense of the people...that is the one thing missing here.  Orlando can be a pretty transient/touristy area where people are not always the friendliest.

I will keep you all updated on what happens, but in the meantime, thanks SO much, I appreciate it a lot.

I have lived in Omaha most of life, and I other than the weather, I like it just fine.  The winters, especially this one, are endless, it seems.  Summers are hot and humid, but I like those just fine.  Omaha is larger than most people think (44th largest city in the U.S.) and there are actually quite a few things to do to keep yourself occupied.  The people are friendly, but beware Omaha drivers.  We drive fast and aggressive (in my opinion).  Most areas are safe and well maintained.  Good schools and great shopping.

Overall, it is a wonderful place to raise a family.
