@Future_Mrs_Dr_I:  FI has my wedding band because he doesn’t want me to be wearing it around the house. He had it in his CAR!!! for a while. I was like, “PLEASE! put it somewhere safe! If you lose it you are buying me a more expensive one!” I promised I wouldn’t wear it, but he kept it there for quite a bit.  He finally brought it back in the house, and I would be lying if I said I haven’t tried it on haha Maybe try telling him that he will have to buy you another gift if he loses it and get him thinking. Hope he comes around!

To @Future_Mrs_Dr_I:  OMGosh yes, I feel your pain !!  IF it is your ERing it needs to be locked up … and ideally in a Bank’s Safety Deposit Box.

I agree with @CaliRorter:  without spilling the beans you might want to say something like this the next time he brings it up…

“Ya and if you lose it or have it stolen, I’ll be expecting you to go out an buy me another one…”

I’d be tempted to put in something about his work not being Fort Knox, but I’m guessing that might give a bit too much info away (in that you’ve figured it out)

Question – Does he even have a Safety Deposit Box now ?  He may not even realize that this is an item he might need / want in the future as he establishes himself & you as a couple with assets etc.

Maybe that is the way around the problem… don’t talk about the ring at all… or Christmas.  Just talk about the future and things you guys need to take care of as you formulate a NEW Family … Safety Deposit Box – Wills etc.

Wills being one of the things we keep in our Safety Deposit Box… might make it a good jumping off point for such a conversation and what else would go in one

(When I travel without my Sparkly ERing… it gets tucked away here in our local Safety Deposit Box)

Hope this helps,

Ack! Boys are so dumb. My husband keeps pricey stuff in his locker at work too, and I’m just like WHAT?? It’s not like he puts a lock on his locker. Unless your FI works for the CIA or somewhere, he needs to find a better hiding spot.

@Future_Mrs_Dr_I:  Why would he have a coworker take it to their parents house? O.O Thats just so weird! I’d definitely tell him straight up NO on that one.

@Future_Mrs_Dr_I:  haha just trust him. I’ll bet that ring will arrive safely on your finger this Christmas! Disregard the nasty comment that preceded mine. 🙂

@Future_Mrs_Dr_I:  Here’s my idea: Are any of your girlfriends friends with him? Could you have one play stealth for you and sort of talk to him about the Christmas present? “Hey, OP says her present is hidden at your office! She’s kind of worried that one of your co-workers might steal it… you know, just in case it’s something a guy would like? If you know what I mean?” That would give him the chance to admit that it’s the ring, and then she can look shocked and say “OMG, it’s at YOUR WORK??!!! No way, dude, not cool. You have to get that sucker in a safe deposit box TODAY.”
