So I am at work today and I have to use the restroom. I walk down the hallway and as I enter the bathroom I hear someone talking. They aren’t at the row of sinks, so they must be in a stall. I assume they are chatting with someone in the next stall over…a bit odd at work, but not that weird.
Then, I turn the corner and notice that all the stalls are empty except for one. This means she is on her phone…TALKING….in the bathroom. I wish that was all, but it get’s worse…I hear here talking about work related things. She must be chatting with her SO or BFF, right? No. She is ON A CONFERENCE CALL!!! WHILE IN THE BATHROOM!!! She proceeds to flush the toilet and we end up at the sinks at the same time. She is then saying “could you repeat that, I couldn’t hear that last comment” because the toilet was flushing!
I know that conference calls are important, and I spend my fair share of time on them, but if I needed a restroom break that badly, I would simply say “I need to step out for a few minutes. I will be right back.”
I REALLY hope she put her call on mute for the flush…but she was definitely talking when I flushed, so there is a high probablility that her call heard she was in the bathroom.
I don’t know what I would do if I was on that call. We have a huge office and only one bathroom on the floor, so I don’t know this person, but…wow…just wow.

thenewmrsmax: Hugely inappropriate. I have spoken up in that situation and told the woman to please hurry up and leave the bathroom as I choose NOT to be her background noise.

OMG, gross! Holy cow that’s unprofessional. If I ever caught an employee of mine doing that they would be in serious trouble.

thenewmrsmax: My boss totally does this! And I don’t think he mutes it for the flush! It wouldn’t change a thing if he did, because I’m sure the person on the other line can hear our REALLY loud fan running in the background! But he’s a diabetic and I think he takes pills that increase his urine output and sometimes you just can’t get a client to shut up!

thenewmrsmax: This has happened to me before at previous jobs. One woman (she worked for a different company but we shared bathrooms within the same office building) came into the bathroom on a conference call holding a bunch of paperwork and was referencing it as she used the bathroom. I was so uncomfortable.

At first I was thinking you were totally overreacting – I mean, if a girl wants to chat to her BFF as she pees, whatever – but a conference call?! Good god!

I’ve been on conference calls and just absolutely HAD to go to the bathroom. But I always held it until I could mute it… like, not my turn to talk for a while… But never while I’m talking.

That’s so gross! I actually saw my former manager come out of the stall while on the phone with a client, and she didn’t wash her hands! When I came out of the bathroom, she was handing out cookies that a client had sent us. Handing them out with her bare, unwashed hands. I wanted to vomit.

MariContrary: The hand washing thing is beyond me. I cannot stand it when people don’t do it. At least this woman did the should phone hold and ran her hands under water for a few seconds…

Gross but welp, at least you have manners.

Ugh… I worked with a lady who did this. She dropped a total of 4 phones into the toilet in a matter of 6 months!!! She would go into the bathroom talking and come out talking. She also never washed her hands, and was sick quite a bit. I am guessing there is a correlation there, haha! Her boss hated that and is a germophobe like me, and she was always wiping everything and spraying Lysol.

EW, gross. I can’t help but think of all the germs on that cellphone.

Ewww. But I think this may be worse – once I was in the very noisy public bathroom of a shopping centre and I heard the girl in the stall next to me call back an employer about a job interview! It’s one thing if you are on a call and desperate for the bathroom but to proactively call your prospective employer from the stall?! Seriously.

hahahaha!! Hilarious. But highly inappropriate!
