I got hurt the first time I really tried to run consistently, too. I’m slowly easing my way back into it right now. I try to follow the 10% rule (http://www.runnersworld.com/running-tips/10-percent-rule) of not increasing my weekly mileage by more than 10% over the previous week. So far so good, but I’m being pretty cautious (okay, nervous) too because I know what it feels like to be benched by an injury!

how much do you run right now. I could suggest a beginners running routine to get you started. It gradually builds up. Let me know!

@FrenchNewlyWed:  I’m not sure if its similar to the c25k. I found this one when I re-started running a few months ago.

http://running.about.com/od/getstartedwithrunning/a/quickstartrunningguidemonth1.htm

it has really worked. It tells you each day what to do all you need is a waTch. If you haven’t been arunning running or workout out you will have some adjustment discomforts/soreness but it’s normal and less strenuous as other running programs! I run for about 40 minutes 4 times a week now. And I feel good. I’ve toned up. I never thought I’d be running this long non stop this many times a week. But I enjoy it now!

LEt me know If you have more questions.

@FrenchNewlyWed:  How about having a thread where we discuss how we’re doing? Just an idea! I’m exactly the same. I always start to do well and somehow lose motivation. I’ve been doing it for years. Best I got was 5km in 28.5 m but somehow have lost it since I got married and am a total couch potato!!!

Be careful running, I used to run every day and for whatever reason recently I hurt BOTH my ankles and cant run for longer than 5minutes (So I have to use the elliptical)! Also know that doing other cardio is just as effective, and most of the time will build muscle too (like burpees)!

In terms of motivation.. I am similar to you, I WANT to work out and feel good, but by the time I have THE TIME to do it, I dont want to anymore.. I find the best time for me to workout is dead smack in the middle of the day. SIgh! My best recommendation is to work out whenever that time is for you (and hopefully its more convenient than my time). Not only do I feel more motivated to do it, but I work out harder too!

@FrenchNewlyWed:  I pre-measure how far I’m going to run, and then see how long it takes me to run that distance.

So before the wedding, I ran from the hotel to the Timmy Hos, to the waterfront, then back to the hotel. It was 4 miles, and when I got back, I discovered it had taken me 35 minutes, and that was how I figured out how fast I was running!

Also, I am a huge fan of treadmill running–I trained for a half marathon on a treadmill exclusively from January until April! It’s much easier to get through long distances when you have something to stare out aside from the road!

@BrandNewBride:  You’re about the only other person that loves the treadmill aside from me!! There is always so much going on in the gym that interests me!!!

@FrenchNewlyWed:  I roared laughing at your comment!! That’s why Im so bad at running outdoors!!! Too many interesting things to look at!! At least on the treadmill if I stop, I fall off- and believe me it has happened (in front of the cute gym instructor (when I was single!!)).

I don’t mind, maybe a new thread in case anyone else is interested? This is gonna force me to exercise tomorrow… I will go, I Willl go!!!!

Btw, Are there any free timed runs in your area. I’ve done a couple of ‘park runs’? Look it up. Not sure where you’re froM.

Last year I read a book called “Run Your Butt Off” from the editors of runners world…great book and huge help!’ Got me started on a healthy path again 🙂
