I would try to find a seamstress in a drycleaner to do it. That's what I did, they tend to not charge as much. See about getting it let out and the corset added...but I think I would wait at least another month just to make sure
Oh no! Damn pill! :(
Maybe you could exchange it instead of buying a whole new dress? I would keep calling seamstresses, too. Ask friends and family, word of mouth is always the best advertisement.
Aww, if it makes you feel any better, I promise you'll find a solution before your wedding, and the worst case scenarios you're imagining will not actually happen. I don't think there's ever been a bride who walked down the aisle with her zipper only done halfway :-) Seamstresses can work miracles. Sorry you've had trouble finding one so far.
@MrsSl82be: I'll see about that. My concern is that if I wait for another month, and I end up having to buy another dress, it won't come in time for my wedding.
Oh no!! The mirror shows such a pretty back. It would suck to alter that. Maybe 2 small side corsets?
@Aure: No returns or exchanges :-( One of my BMs said she'll ask her mom what she can do, but it's not guaranteed.
@MASPA: Thanks..the back fabric falls over the zipper, so Idk if that would be a problem. I'm not good with fabrics and sewing though. I would ask, but the places I've called didn't even know what I meant when I said corsets.
Could you put in a button with an extender or something? It seems like since you have that panel that comes down to cover the zipper anyways, if you fudged it no one would be able to see. Would that work?
@bakerella: oh, that's a good idea! But how would you stop the zipper from coming down when bending over?
With such a pretty back, maybe you don't need a corset? Would you be able to just let out the seams? That's such a simple fix. I'm sorry you're having to worry about this!
@jjmomma: I can ask about doing that.
@bakerella: Good idea..but I have the same question as @MrsSl82be lol
I called another place about putting a lace-up back and they quoted me: $50/hour, 5 hour job = 250. That pretty much equals the cost of the dress. She said they could let the seams out for $75-125.
@misssydneyj: That dress is really pretty on you, I would buy it in a bigger size. Try talking to the manager to see if there is anything they can do for you to help with the price. I just got off BC pills last month because I gained 10-15 pounds while on it for three years. I wish you the best, don't cry.
@Soladylike: Thank you. That is looking like the best option since I might spend the same amount just in alterations. My weight hasn't really increased, it just shifted to my butt and boobs..like I finally hit puberty!
@misssydneyj: That's crazy! What pill are you on, if I may ask? I'm not sure if this is even possible but could you make the back angle down instead of having to zip up that far? Because apparently now you can hold it up! :)
@MrsCoachBtoBee: I'm on Necon 1-35. What does that mean? lol I am not good with fabric/sewing terms
Your dress is SO pretty and you look gorgeous. Could you buy a new dress in the same style and sell the existing dress? Unless you can find an affordable seamstress to make the adjustments. I hope it works out for you soon!
I am so sorry! I know exactly how you feel with the BC situation, as my already large chest has expanded quite a bit over the years on the pill. Relax, take some deep breaths and call around some more. Corsets are very simple to do and they should cost around $75-$100 depending on the back of your dress and how much work they have to do. Hang in there, six months is still enough time!
@misssydneyj: Sorry I'm not either so it's hard to explain! Lol. Instead of the back of it going straight across, it looks like a V. I've seen brides on here do it and they say it helps with back fat too. :)
@MissPine: Thank you! I might end up doing that.
@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: Thanks! 6 months seems like a while, but if I choose to buy another dress, it might not come in on time. That's the only reason why I'm flipping out about it now.
@MrsCoachBtoBee: Okay, I'll ask about it..thanks!
I gained ten pounds on birth control, and it messed up my thyroid (most likely) so I feel your pain. I'm going to venture to guess that a good option might be to get an IUD or use another method of bc so that you can return to your normal size. It seems like a lot better of an idea than buying another dress. Anythign that changes your body that much can't be good.
Well, I tried on my dress last night, and I think if someone helps me zip it up, I might be able to fit it. I have an appointment with a seamstress on Saturday, so we will see! I'll keep you ladies updated!
@jouissance: The thing is that I haven't gained pounds. It's weird. My lady parts just got bigger. It's like I hit a 2nd puberty. I don't want an IUD though - I've already discussed that with my doctor. Thanks though!
find a dry cleaner that also has tailor in the name, sometimes you cant find them online and it honestly just takes taking a spin around your town (i had the hardest time when i moved ot a new town) then go there with the dress, and talk to them. and NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE--but if you can try and find one run by a greek, portugese (sp) or brazillian family you are golden. its in their hertiage to make clothing and they are amazing at it. while they may not be great on the phone they will know the issue once you put it on.
it will prob cost about the 150, if you arent comitted to your dress wht about checking out a davids bridal $99 dress sale. you are so tiny you shouldnt have any trouble finding something there, and i believe you leave with the dress that day.
Best wishes!

Some of you may remember when I posted about how my body shape changed after I bought my dress. I bought my dress back in May/June, and it fit perfectly. But then BC pills kicked in (after being on them since November) and now the dress won't fit over my bustline. It zips up perfectly over my hips but then stops right at my bust. My bust size increased 2 cup sizes since June!
I thought maybe putting a corset back in the dress would help. I called some dress shops, but they either didn't speak English, or they didn't know wtf I was talking about. I'm so stressed out now..my wedding is in 6 months! One shop quoted me at $150 but I don't think she understood what I meant. And my dress was less than $300..not cool. I could buy the dress again in a bigger size, but with the wedding coming up so soon, we are really trying to save money.
I'm sitting here crying at work...this sucks. I have no one to really talk to.
