I am jumping up and down excited! My birthday was a few weeks ago, so I was surprsied when, while visiting the nearly-in-laws tonight, my FMIL hands me this gorgeous package and wishes me a happy belated birthday. Having no clue what it could be, I open it up and what do I find...My Hair Comb! My beautiful etsy original Vintage Silver Astoria Hair Comb by the brilliant Lulu Splendor!
I was devastated when a few days ago I was once again stalking it on etsy (which I have been doing for...ummm...months, trying to convince myself I NEED to spend the $$ for it because...ummm...I wanted it so badly.) and it had been Sold! Oh no! I woke my FI up at 2am upset at myself for not having purchased it and demanding to know if it was okay if I spent the $75 for the earrings I want from her so badly as well (the answer is No, $75 is too much. :( I understand because our budget it tiny and we are poor students, but I was upset over losing both my pretties!).
I LOVE LOVE my FMIL! Look at the pictures! How it sparkles! It does that in real life too! Its a small hair comb, but for my head size (is that weird to think about?) it is perfect! *squee!*
Let me try this picture thing again. I've never had this much trouble loading pictures before! Leave it to be difficult for when I'm super excited!
This seems to have posted twice for some reason...tonight is not my night for electronics I think! So this is the "Real Thread" since of the two its the only one with pictures....
@Stassney- Yes, it is! So sparkly in person! Yay!
@MissAsB- I hope so! I can't wait! :D
@JamaicaBride- I want the matching earrings shown in the picture too, but they recently sold. I am holding out hope that they'll end up being a secret Christmas present.... ;D
I love the bird detail! We are going to be releasing doves and our caketopper is going to be 'lovebirds'..
@Stessney- Months ago I fell in love with pictures of weddings that have bird details. I've tried to convince my FI we ought to incorporate birds too, but he is not a fan. So...I am sneaking them in in small details. :) My hair comb, a small painted pattern on our cake toppers (which I am making following an online turtorial) and other, little, tiny places. I know that each time I see a tiny, hidden bird at our wedding I'll smile a little bigger. (I know he knows what I am doing and we each pretend not to. He is not, in fact, as opposed to birds as he's convinced himself he is and I know that tiny birds are sometimes way more awesome then gianty ones. He loves my new bird hair comb too. "Its gorgeous, but not as gorgeous as you are." Awwww...)
That was very sweet of your FMIL. She really cares about you. You need to write an amazing thank you note. So how did she know?
@Charm bracelet- The longer i know my FMIL, the more I want to adopt her as my mother! But that would be weird with my marrying my FI then. ;P She found out about it by asking my FI what to get me for my birthday, and he said that there was this THING I'd been lusting over for months but refused to buy for myself because of the cost. He's known since then they she'd gotten it for me and let me be sad for days so that when she gave it to me I'd be all sorts of surprised- which I was! I think I may give her something far more concrete then a written Thank You. Partly because she deserves it and partly because I see her at least once a week (usually) and handing her a written out Thank You would just feel awkward. I have 3 free hour long back messages on a card I was given and I think I'll book her a message and facial. She was talking about how stressed she is lately and I bet she'd love 2 hours or so of pampering and just getting away from everyone.
That is a gorgeous, gorgeous hair comb! You have a wonderful FMIL. Lucky, lucky you!
How gorgeous. Give your FMIL a big hug and a kiss for that beauty! That's a piece you can hand down in the family you realize? Your daughter (or DIL to be) could wear it one day!
Gorgeous piece. I love Lulu Splendor. What a sweet FMIL. Lucky girl. Not all girls can say the same ;)
it's sweet of you to give her something back, but I really don't think it is necessary...I know my mom wouldn't want a gift in return, but maybe she's just weird like that
It's beautiful, I can see why you have been pining over it for such a long time. That was really sweet of both your FI and your FMIL.
Love it!!! The great thing about a hair comb is that it is kind of timeless and you can maybe pass it down to your daughter or granddaughter. :)
Really pretty! I was just looking at those earrings on Etsy - I'm in love with them, but I'm afraid they'd hurt my lobes. The comb is so beautiful!
This is simply beautiful! The earrings may be a little too heavy for my sensitive ears *sigh* but I bet they look gorgeous on you!
@Gilneas & Alphabride- I LOVe the earrings in the picture with the dummy head, but I do not own them due to the cost. But now that I have the comb...perhaps I can convince my FI to get me the earrings for Christmas! :D The earrings DO look heavy and normally that would make me run, but you only get married once and I think a tiny bit of ear pain might be worth how gorgeous those earrings are! I hope they're not as heavy as they look though, I know the comb is surprisingly light.
@CorgiTales- It is definately a piece of jewelery you take good care of and offer to your children for their weddings too! I'm glad it came in a beautiful tin for storage so that I can keep it for always (and hopefully wear it on our big anniversaries too- 25 and 50! Maybe even 75 if we live that long!)
Beautiful :) :) :)
I agree with belle that is something to be passed down!!
I really want to settle on a bridal headband...but I like so many!!
!!! how gorgeous! i am LOVING the vintage-y look of the comb, and the bird detail. I think it's great that you and your FMIL have such a close relationship!
I love it! I actually stumbled on LuLu Splendor last week and spent quite a while browsing, so many beautiful pieces! You have an awesome FMIL!
