How cool that you're getting married on New Years Eve though!
Whoa, did you have a contract signed? I'd sue her not only for breach of contract but for some sort of undue stress, if you want your money back... and find more photogs ASAP! Email anyone in your budget that you love, and explain the situation. Ask if they can offer any help/discounts since your wedding is so close. Ask friends for recommendations, too... and in your church/friends' churches, group activities, and any local schools!

That is really terrible! I'm sorry. Did you have a contract with her? Or was it an unwritten agreement that she'd shoot your wedding. Unfortunately if there isn't a contract there's not much you can do.
omg!! did you have a contract with her as well as a deposit paid? if so demand your deposit back and tell her that she is in breech of contract and that you will definitely be getting with an attorney after your return, even though you'd hate to have to do that. i can give you some photogs that are in florida, and if you post an ad in classifieds with your budget, you may definitely be able to get a few hits on it
More likely than not her contract (if she has one) will be structured as an at-will meaning either could breach and would have to forfeit (in her case) return the deposit. Our wedding is NYE as well next year, and of course with it being the holiday, you are going to be possibly at the mercy of the holiday surcharge.
I would start contacting vendors immediately and see if due to the short timeframe, they can extend a discount to you.
What time is your ceremony/reception?
Sorry, meant to put in my post we were meeting this Friday to sign the contract and give her the deposit. Seriously though......as a human being how could she not ask her husband way before today about their holiday plans knowing about my wedding???? I'm just amazed and worried and stressed I won't find someone in my price range for that day.
I think you should post a "Looking For" ad in the classifeds here. So sorry! I know you'll find someone great.
This is why contracts are needed, regardless of if you know them socially or not :-( When did you start talking with her about this? Have you been on the books for months and months? Or did this just all kinda start getting talked about in the last few weeks?

Wow, that is terrible! I'm sorry to hear that your photographer backed out at the last minute. That really sucks that you didn't have a contract signed yet. Hope you can find someone else on such short notice. Definitely try craigslist or something like that. Good luck, I'm sure everything will turn out great!
yes craiglist and wedding classifieds! Be carefull about craigslist though. Get a contract sighned ASAP. Good luck finding someone - might be a little harder than normal for New Years Eve.....Im sure someone is willing though!

Photog has know for over a month we're getting married on New Year's Eve and she just now asked her husband about their holiday plans. Of course they won't be in town. She's not a good friend but I met her about three years ago and have kept in touch off and on, I do love her work. I'm pretty angry right now.
Everything is set, just needed to order the rings and finish writing the ceremony. Now this :(
