Last year Darling Husband and I had a stray cat show up. Nothing out of the ordinary since ppl dump animals back here all the time. (Very rural area) We have had lots of cats come and go. Either they were here a couple days and never seen again or we found homes for them. This one cat in particular showed up on the property one night and just never left. Sometimes she might be gone for a few days but would ALWAYS come back…. waiting on the porch; looking in the door meowing “IM HUNGRY!!!” Then around Christmas she never showed up.
This morning at 8am I get up to let the dogs outside and I hear the loudest cat meow in my life! It was coming from under Darling Husband truck. I bent down to see what was going on and this little cat peeked out from the tires and it was HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just said OMG!!!! and ran inside to wake up DH! I told him I had a huge suprise for him. He was too sleepy to get up so I brought her inside the house and said “OK here it is!” and he opened his eyes, then did a double take and said “OMG is that my sweet baby!?!?!?!” (dh always called that cat his sweet baby, hes a huge cat lover lmao) He was so excited! 🙂
Here is her sweet little face! She has been SOOOO lovey this morning!

awww! I am so glad to hear this story! I dont know how you deal with the stray cats. I love cats and foster but I think I love them too much because it is heart breaking and I even know they are going to a nice home. Thank you for all you do. So, will you be keeping this one inside? I know you cannot do that will all of them, but you know, cats are not meant to be outside.

That’s awesome!! Our cat got out not long after we moved into our house, and he was gone for a month. We thought for sure he was gone for good, but our neighbor caught him in a cat trap for us 🙂
Glad to see your girl is back

oh, and I just wanted to add how lucky she is to have found you guys! I always wonder what happened to the cats that run away and then come back a long time later! 😀

Isn’t she lovely! Where I work then they say calicos bring good luck! That said…
“cats are not meant to be outside.”
I realise that you are probably from the US (and that there are cultural differences there), but this is something a lot of people will disagree with you on! In fact, in the UK then charities will generally not rehome cats unless they will be given free access to an outside space… ie you are required to have a cat flap installed to get a rescue cat. There are several practical reasons for this difference of opinion (UK has smaller, older roads which necessitate a lower speed limit, we have no large predatory species, we have few to no endangered bird species in urban areas, and our laws classify cats as wild animals, which makes a difference to their legal status). My kitty loves the outside… I think it is much more natural for her. But to each their own… I know that there are plenty of people from the US especially who will disagree!

Awwww what a sweet story! 🙂
we have about 4 stray cats that wander around our block. they are basically the entire blocks pets. we all feed them and no one kicks them out of the yard and all of our dogs are used to them at this point. we live in chicago so they do critter control and are pretty sweet. there is only one female and she was suuuuper sweet. She is really lovey and calm. well she got really close with our neighbor last summer. he would always cook out on his front porch with a small grill and a six pack. he was a middle aged, single, construction worker. super nice but it was always just him so he would always feed her and they kind of kept each other company all summer long. Well he ended up moving and would come back regularly hoping to catch her on his old porch so he could take her in. He really fell for her. Well almost a year later he finally caught up with her and now she has been taken to the vet and has a home. She adores him and he seems really excited to have her. So happy they found a happy ending. just like your kitty story!!! she is adorable btw!!
ETA: we have all tried at different times to catch the cats and give them proper homes but they run away. the girl was the only one that seemed to want a home. The others were more skittish. So before anyone says we are promoting strays we arent. but unless we are going to call animal control (who will put them down, we know for a fact) our optoins were limited. So there are numerous houses that keep beds and let them sleep in the back porch areas and stuff. We do what we can I guess

She will only be inside temporary- to fatten up and rest. She only gets to come inside when the weather is bad or too hotcold but has to stay in the laundry room. We had an inside cat once when we were renting a place and it peed inside the house so I refuse to ever have another. She hates being inside honestly so Im not gonna make her a house cat. Shes been living outsidebarn cat her entire life. She is spayed though. Right now she is just getting lots of love and being pampered.
I wish she could talk!!! I bet she has some crazy things to say! We are so excited to have her back!
