So, I was being a bum today and moseying around my local Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. I decided to look at the formal dresses they had there, because, let’s face it…thrift store dresses are often so bad or so 1980s that they’re hilarious. (And I DID find this beauty with a butt bow…)
Anyway, I saw one hanging up that actually looked normal, so I decided to take a peek. I looked inside and…it was a Sottero Midgley, and it was roughly my size (or soon will be)…AND IT WAS ONLY $40. It hasn’t been worn to a wedding as far as I can tell, the beading is flawless and the only caveat is that it was missing the satin lacing for the corset back which is an easy peasy fix for my seamstress of a grandma.
Now, I haven’t tried a damn thing on up until now, so I try and get myself into it as best as I can by myself in the tiny fitting room…and it looks pretty darn good. So, I figure, “It’s $40. In wedding world, you cannot get a veil for $40. If I don’t wear it, I’m only out $40 and I can try selling it online for at least $100.” So…I bought it.
Is that crazy? Because I think it might be a little crazy… Anyway, if you know which style number this is, I would love to know. It doesn’t say it on the tag or anything, so I’m curious!! (And my apologies for the crappy cell pictures. I dropped my own camera in a lake a few weeks ago and haven’t gotten around to it.)
The whole thing in the mirror:
The top (which I believe there may be something missing on the bustline ribbon in the center, but that’s an easy fix too…)

Thats not crazy! Thats wicked good luck! I also always look at the hilariously bad dresses in thrift shops. Every now and then you fine a good one. My best thrift store fine was a vinatage brown leather jacket in great condition, fits me perfectly, and was only $20! I wear it all the time. 🙂

@hopefloats: I was thinking the same thing 🙂

That is a FAB find, great luck and it is sooo pretty. That first one isn’t that bad, take the bow off and make the skirt into box pleats rather than gathered, bingo – unique modern dress.

@hopefloats: Haha, no!! The first one was actually not terrible, sans butt bow, though the front had a little bit too much 1990s flair for me!

@hopefloats: haha! I thought the same thing, sans the bow. It’s a cute luncheon dress, i think!

I’ll be the first to admit that I loved the butt bow one! 🙂
But the $40 one is gorgeous, and such a great find!

@murmur: I will as soon as I find somebody to help lace me into it!!!
@jo.lee: It really wasn’t terrible, but the butt bow was just funny to me!
@Mrs. Puffin: I hope you have good luck!! It happens!

That’s awesome. Plus, if there’s anything you don’t like about it you can have it tailored to be more fitted, trumpet, whatever. Awesome.
