Take this with a grain of salt, as I am only in week six/ seven (I keep losing track). I've not been plagued by run-for-the-bathroom nausea, but I have had constant and low-level pukey feelings, plus horrible, terrible, miserable indigestion and acid reflux. I can't remember the last time I slept without waking up over and over with that nasty acid taste in my mouth.
My doc gave me a scrip for an acid blocker, but I was still really uncomfortable after I ate - and I love to eat, so this was embarrassingly disappointing to me. My whole world changes if eating isn't fun (I know, I'm totally admitting that).
Today I tried B6 vitamins for the low-level nausea... and after digging through Perfume's archives (I remembered her mentioning indigestion) cut out red meat and tried to eat "cleaner" meals. At Cracker Barrel today, I ordered a grilled chicken salad. Sad, but true - and I felt pretty okay afterward. I also tried sucking on Lemonheads throughout the day and that helped too
Still ramen noodles for dinner (what can I say, they work), but much less discomfort.
And I think the B6 vitamins are a miracle. I noticed both "Body, Soul, Baby" and the Mayo Book of Pregnancy mentioned them, so I figured I'd try, and hey - they seem to be working.
I find myself struggling to "enjoy this pregnancy" when I just feel icky so much of the time. I don't want to have sex because I have acid in my throat, have a hard time feeling enthusiastic like my husband is, and get into the "oh my god, this misery is for 9 more months?"spiral of doom.
So, if you're there, I thought I'd share that I am too. Yes, excited about this kid, but reality is also the general and constant discomfort that saps my energy - and since I can't sleep much, it gets overwhelming.
And I would suggest trying the B6 vitamins and cleaner meals. Oh, how I love my some fried foods, so leave it to my body to give such a clear signal that this is not what I should be eating.
Man, the female body during pregnancy is amazing. Mine was clearly saying, "Hey, jackass, we both know not eating fried food because you shouldn't isn't going to happen, so I'll help you out. *acid* *gas* *misery* Now try it. You can thank me later."
I wonder if people would find it easier to quit smoking if every inhale made them nauseous? :)
